Oilers

Created by: Edmontonian
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 11, 2022
Published: Jul. 11, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hopefully this is considered realistic. Some notes:
-I expect Giroux to go to Ottawa at a higher price tag at this point, I think 6 mil is as high as the Oilers can go in giving a top 6 winger, Giroux is my favourite of the choices however other options would be E.kane, Burakovsky and Perron for around the same price point. Being a long time Oilers fan I'm fully expecting an Evander Kane 6x6 which I don't mind for the first 2 years, after that.. oof.
- Jack Campbell is a 90% likelihood to be an Edmonton Oiler at this point in time, because the goalie market is tight I see him getting a 5x5. I don't completely agree with this, not sure if he is worth that or if he can replicate some of his early results in Toronto, but we need a more solidified starter and he is that. My #1 option is Darcy Kuemper but it looks unlikely.
-For RFA contracts I gave Yamo 3.25x4, might be an underpay however I've seen some 2x2 on the site which just won't happen because he's coming off of a 20 goal 40 point season.
-Ryan McLeod played great under Jay Woodcroft, his agent (Joseph Resnick) signs some pretty fair deals, his most recent being Jacob Middleton (2.45x3) so I think a 2 year bridge at 1.75 is fair for McLeod who will be playing in the bottom 6 for the Oilers.
-Brett Kulak is an Edmonton native and seemed to enjoy playing here, been reports his minimum is 2.5x4, but he can probably get 3x4 on the open market, I think the Oilers and him can come to a compromise of 2.85x4 which is an excellent contract for Edmonton.
-Signed Deslauriers simply for the grit, I'm well aware the game is changing and is more speed and skill focused (which bodes well for Edmonton) but if the Oilers are to lose both Kassian and Kane as well as Archibald you need something. It could be any guy who does what deslauriers does for ~1 mil honestly, you can even scratch him and replace him with Devin Shore if you want.
-I wanted to make it so that at the deadline we have the ability to acquire a more legit top 4 LD, which is why I didn't move any picks and wanted to keep Foegeles 2.75 on the books.

Trades
EDM
  1. Brown, Connor
  2. Zub, Artem
Additional Details:
Ottawa is pushing hard to move Connor Brown, Edmonton is considered one of the top bidders. Artem Zub is a solid defensemen however there were reports Sens were looking to move on from him at last years deadline. Barrie would replace Zub at RD and would be used on Ottawas 2nd line PP unit which is now more dangerous due to new additions. You can add a late round pick on either side depending on how you assess each players value.
OTT
  1. Barrie, Tyson
  2. Puljujärvi, Jesse [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Puljujarvi in my opinion is a valuable player who does great things on both ends of the ice, however it just doesn't seem like it's going to work out for him in Edmonton and I estimate his value is around a 2nd round pick. Ottawa gets another solid young forward. Tyson Barrie's role on the team is being taken over by Evan Bouchard and I sense his contract will only get harder to move, the Oilers cant afford to pay him 4.5 next season.

https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/frank-seravalli-trade-deadline-war-room-atlantic-division-objectives/

Seravelli tossed his name around at the deadline. Nothing was concrete just rumors, I understand that Sens fans feel the same way about Zub that Oilers fans do with Puljujarvi, we love them smile . But the management teams are looking at pieces and if the Sens can get a player like Puljujarvi on a good contract that is seriously valuable to them. At the end of the day what you're giving up in return is 2 guys on expiring UFA deals. Ottawa has already made big leaps forward this year but you are not a cup contender just yet. This is multiple comments now about Zub so I'll take your word for it, you guys know your own team better than I do. I doubt the Oilers would be able to afford resigning him anyway.
