A true take for a Canucks Offseason

Created by: Tmclean64
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 11, 2022
Published: Jul. 11, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If they cant make the roster better with a Miller trade, they keep him which seems likely at this point. Although there still is time to move him once the dust settles on the ufa and trade market. Im in the camp of keeping Miller and not overcommiting dollars this season to prepare for dishing out money to some players. Pearson and Myers deals will also become more attractive next offseason on rhe last year of their deals.

This management group wants to add size and speed to the roster.

I think they need to move Ferlands money off any way they can this offseason to a team that needs LTI money.

MTL laugh to death … MTL love Josh Anderson, we need big power forward. We aren’t trading him for a dwarf

Like @TheRealisticGuy said, Anderson is loved by Hughes, and Garland is 5'8. He payed a haul to get a 6'4 C and drafted Slaf (which is the right choice). We aren't trading a fast giant for a midget

I honestly like Garland more than Hughes, but the trade still doesn't make sense for Montreal.

That midget out score your whole team at 5v5. Garland>Anderson and it isn’t very close

It’s pretty clear that Garland is better than Anderson. Almost every stat proves it. The only thing Anderson has is size. It size is the most important thing in the NHL now, I’m surprised Maveric Lamoreaux wasn’t picked 1OA

It’s funny how you call is irrelevant but the only thing the Leafs are relevant for is lack of playoff success. Tell your Leafs buddies to keep convincing people Nick Robertson is a top prospect and Justin Holl is worth a first

Just some stats for the two players over the last 3 seasons:

Games played: CG 194, JA 147
Goals: CG 53, JA 37
Goals per game: CG 0.27, JA 0.25
Points: CG 130, JA 60
Points per game: CG 0.67, JA 0.4
EV points: CG 107, JA 54
EV ppg: CG 0.55, JA 0.36
Penalties taken: CG 36, JA 47
Penalties Drawn CG 77 (!), JA 44

So yeah I guess if the Canucks are trading away the player who is a year younger, 550k less cap hit, scores way more points both 5v5 and in all strengths, scores similar goal totals, has way better penalty differential, and has a better injury history they should have to add a prospect to get it done.

Yup that makes sense

Lmao huge talk considering both Vancouver and Montreal have at least won a round in the last 3 seasons. At least the leafs have the regular season though

And how many second season games did they play last season???? You can hang onto the past all you want but it won't change the future

Totally valid points. But when you approach a team to pry away a player they like. I think a slight overpayment is needed. Canucks seem to want to move away from Dipietro and add a Vet for Utica as well this season so I think the trade works for both sides.

But garland is better than Anderson and they play the same position. There is no reason to do this trade. It makes the team worse.

I disagree there. I think this trade makes our team harder to play against. We need more sandpaper and size thru our lineup. Anderson would be a great fit on Bo's wing imo.

I agree getting sandpaper is good but garland already adds a lot of push back. Plus, giving up the better player for the sake of adding size or whatever never works out. You need both skill and grit.

As I pointed out, Garland is overall the much better player. Don’t fall in love with the idea of a player and ignore the actual results.

Anderson is a mid 30 point winger on a big contract.

If you want some one who it’s and puts up 3rd liner points, Zach Aston-Reese, Christian Fischer, Curtis Lazar, mason marchment, Nick Bjugstad, zach Sanford can all be signed in Free agency this year and provide a similar level of physicality.

Keep garland to score points, add bottom sixers with good two-way iq to add physicality.

Because they get out of a horrible contract and get a much better player as well as a decent goalie prospect

Decent goalie prospect who needs to go through waivers = 7th rd pick value at best. Not a single person in MTL hate Josh Anderson, everyone loves him. You need to check game to see what he can bring to a team. People who are only looking at statistics don’t know much about hockey. And it’s known big player with skills and grit are worth a lot, so Anderson have definitely more value than Garland. But Garland is the better overall for sure

By that logic, Tyler Myers is one of the most valuable players in the league. He’s huge, 6’8, throws the body, eats up 25 minutes per night. A player does not have more value because of their size. If you’re going to say Anderson is more valuable but not provide any statistics to prove it, you’re already wrong. You can’t deny stats. Garland is better at quite literally everything except for being big. While size does play a factor, in this case, it doesn’t make up for the massive difference in effectiveness between the two
