Higher AAV than I was expecting but hes more than worth it if he plays like he did last season. We'll see how well it ages though

He's a stud, but this feels like the kind of contract that the Avs deliberately didn't do with their players that allowed them to become such a good team.

it's a "pay now and worry about it later" deal, avs have an open window for another couple of cups so might as well pay the premium and deal with the negatives down the line

Capfriendly chatters once again showing they have no concrete way of evaluating play-driving or defensive abilities. Val Nichuskin does two things really well, and those things are maybe the most important ones in comparison to their subtle nature: He makes the opposition score less, and he makes his team mates score more.

Instead people on this board are firmly attached to players reaping the rewards off of the backs of Nichuskin-types. How many people dragged Chicago for signing Kane for not only a much more expensive contract, but even more so in relative terms? Kane does less, but what he does *looks* better (because goals and assists are easy math, and defensive work and ice-tilting metrics is more difficult math), so people are fine with it. Nichuskin has been a top-3 forward on Colorado since his arrival, and this is a no-brainer.

I get it's super long, but he's the player they most needed to retain to contend for a cup again next year. It's an overpay for sure, but a necessary one to keep the cup window open.
The one key UFA left that I'd seriously look at signing is Burakovsky (unless Manson wants a super cheap deal). If not, time to focus on getting Lehkonen/Sturm/Aube Kubel done.

It’s a lot, but our win now window is now, and he definitely will be a useful part of our post-season runs both offensively and defensively (especially). Good deal.

Sakic left the position right in time to admire the reactions to this awful signing hahaha. The only win for the team is that there's barely any signing bonus in case of a lockout.
Dude's had only 2 half PPG since 2014 and they throw him the holy bag.

It was only ever one good season to people who don't pay attention. Val has been great ever since he landed in COL

The twins ****ing nailed it:

People who are claiming this is bad, or he had 1 good season, havent watched Nuke in more detail in his time in Colorado.
and just wait till their favorite teams start handing out "bad contract" on wedneday.

Can pretty much guarantee that if Nuke got to market a team was going to give him 7x7. Its not a coincidence that the Avs gave him a 49.2m contract. They used the 8th year to get to the dollar amount some teams were willing to go

counter point...avs are as good as a team bc their identity is exactly that if Nichushkin. Speed, zone entry and forechecking monsters. Take away those players and they stop being the Avs. He is a large part of the teams make up
