Nice underpayments bud. If the leafs want to sign any of those guys they have to overpay based on the fact that canadas taxes are like 10% higher or something than americas. Stromes 2 mil contract would leave him with around 960k in profit in Ontario. Strome signs that exact same deal in Chicago he nets 1.15 mil. With about a 200k difference in just a small contract like that it makes it hard for a lot of players to see Toronto as a nice location to play, especially with the media possibly taking a toll on their mental. A big reason why I think matthews leaves in 2 years is the tax situation. The contract he signed in Canada, he’s netting around 5.4m a year. A 10m contract in the states nets him 5.6m. To sign any of these free agents makes no sense for the players as while the contracts they are being offered may be higher in AAV, the actual dollar amount the players are receiving is less. Not even going to mention how you undervalued almost every guy signed but I don’t want to get into that, rather would get into how it’s not as financially rewarding to sign in Canada. Good looks
