Trade 1. Canucks are not going to get PAID to trade an LTIR contract. Look at every LTIR trade in the history of all time ever. The other team is paid to take it..
Trade 2. Not enough for Miller. IDC if people **** he's a rental. Canucks are now opening other teams up to talk to Miller about extensions, he may not be a rental anymore.
Trade 3. Fair trade.
Trade 4. Devils aren't trading their first until they know that roster can compete. And that is an over payment for Garland...
Trade 5. Myers actually has positive value when you retain on him, especially since he's only got 2 years left. He's still a very usable BIG RHD. And even unretained he's not negative value. But maybe like a late 3rd or a 4th kinda deal.

From the NYR perspective, J.T. Miller is one year rental. The NYR lack sufficient FREE CAP SPACE to retain J.T. in the out years. If the NYR intend to move some of their younger players at the end of next year, or this year for that matter, then this trade might make some sense. VAN will no doubt be looking for different young names than the ones in this trade proposal.

As gdli said, the Rangers are going to be in cap hell next season. Laf, Miller, Jones, and Kravstov (if here all come off their ELC deals) so the Rangers will be up against the cap and won't have room to re-sign Miller. They already traded a first, 2nd, 4th, and prospect for Copp who is likely walking for nothing. I just don't see them giving up this package for a player who everyone knows is going to get 8 to 8.5 million at least if he reaches the open market. I am sure you can get a similar package from the Devils or Caps who will have the cap space, those are more likely teams he will be traded to IMO.

Some great points! The NYR will have $3.4M of DEAD CAP coming off the books plus a likely $1M TEAM CAP increase that should enable them to re-up the young guys.

Garland isn't worth that much.

Tell me u don’t watch hockey without telling me u don’t watch hockey. Garland had 52 points in 77 games, 55 point pace and was great analytically with good defensive metrics, and he said he could’ve had an even better season. He also is makes 4.95 for 4 seasons on a great contract.

I'm a Garland and Canucks fan. I watched him play 77 times last year. As I said I think that is an overpayment.
