Surprise Playoff Run

Created by: jonh514
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 12, 2022
Published: Jul. 12, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
2019-20 - Habs went to the Stanley Cup Finals with the majority of this roster
2020-21 - Habs finished dead last with the majority of this roster
2022-23 - Who are these guys really? Are they the winners who out-performed Toronto, Winnipeg, and Vegas two years ago, or the losers who could not even skate with a top-ranked AHL team last year? I refuse to accept that Price, Weber, & Danault had that much of an impact. Three good players, but these guys have it in them to be winners, they just need leadership to get them there and since they were never getting it from Ducharme, it was clearly coming from Weber. That leadership gap is now closed with St-Louis and Suzuki. The expectations are so low, and if Price is actually able to play, I think this team makes the playoffs.

Notes:
-Byron himself came out at a Golf Tournament and said he's not where he needs to be to start the season, which is why I have him on LTIR
-I signed Monty because the Habs qualified him and because I think he can become the backup we need so we can ship out Allen at the TDL if everyone is healthy (especially Price)
-I repatriated Chiarot because he showed synergy with MSL and also because his performance in Florida was poor so he is probably not gonna get the money he was hoping for in Free Agency. If we can bring him back home on a reasonable contract, I think he can help the Habs during the transition to get the young D core NHL ready (I do not want to rush them up, but to call up Barron in 2023 and Guhle in 2024)
-I traded Hoffman because we have too many expensive Middle 6 wingers and he's probably the easiest to trade of the guys with term (certainly no one wants to take a chance on Gallagher or Armia's contracts)

Yeah I don't think this team is making the playoffs, their division is way to strong, they would not even be able to be a wildcard team with TOR, TBL, BOS, FLA and now OTT stacking up. (Detroit is getting better they might be a surprise appearance this year too). Hell even Buffalo has a better roster than this.

I doubt they bring back Ben Chiarot, since they have too many LD prospect and risk losing them if they sign him.
Petry will most likely not start the season with the Habs, it's been openly said he requested a trade.
The fact that they have yet to trade Jake Allen makes it seem that Price will probably not play the start, or the entirety, of the season

Price did talk to reporters 1 week ago and said he was ready to start the season... And then Hughes down-played it for the draft.

I bet we hear he's good to go after the free agent market opens.

Our LD need to play in Laval for a bit. Even Harris playing in the NHL is a stretch. This is how we ruined Chucky & KK. We need to stop doing that. Even Slafkovsky could maybe spend half a year or a year in the AHL. Chiarot is a known commodity. He didn't all of a sudden forget how to play hockey. He's a good and valuable D and we'd be lucky to have him. Who knows... Maybe we get to trade him again in a few years.
