Gee, why does this scenario sound so familiar?

Kane is a proven 3 time Stanley Cup winner, Conn Smyth winner, and is coming off a season in which he could have claimed the art rose. No way Chicago make that trade for a unproven prospect, as good as Eichel is.

Also potentially 6mil in bonus overage is crippling for 2016

...who has a cap hit of 10,5 M$ for the next 8 years. With this trade, you would have been able to keep Saad, Sharp, Oduya and Johns. Saad and Oduya would probably have took an hometown discount, saving you maybe another 1 M$.
...and you get a consensus future star to be grown behind one (if not the) best player in the league.

...nearly half of this potential 6M$ is for Panarin, which I don't think he will get.

I concede it would have take huge balls to do this trade at that particular moment (after a art ross caliber season and a cup), but i think it would have been the perfect trade from a cap management point of view.

This line up still has cap problems though. 600k left with only 21 players on the roster, definitely need the hometown discount on Saad and Oduya for another at least another dman. Not alot of cap going into 2016 to retain Seabrook either, so someonelse has to move eventually.

Still, wouldn't be bad going into the season with that lineup.
