If Milano would sign a 2 M $ contract the ducks would have qualified him easily . He probably wants way more like 8x4.25

Doesn't work for the Isles. Beyond Muzzin likely not waiving for the Island, you're having the Isles take on an extra $4.5M in cap to open a new hole at RD 3, and you're just throwing a potpourri of B/C tier prospect and pick swaps is going to make them open up a hole at RD3.

Not here to debate whether Muzzin is better than an LD2/3 split of Romanov/Robin Salo, but more that using their cap space in a way that mildly upgrades a position that's already filled *and* opens a new hole at RD3 that will require another signing or trade is just overcomplicating things.

If Romanov is the solution at LD2 then the isles arent coming close to the playoffs however he can also play the right side

Pelech-Pulock
Muzzin-Dobson
Salo-Romanov

Plus with what we saw with McDonagh I don't think the NTC is a issue

It's a limited sample but Romanov's possession numbers tanked whenever he was tasked with playing on his offhand. I'd rather take my chances on Romanov-Dobson and Salo-Mayfield than flip out Mayfield so I can soak up an extra $4.5M in cap space, play Romanov out of position with a rookie partner, and bank on a 33 year old with concussion problems being worth tying up that extra cap for this year and next.

And to piggyback on my last thought - you saw what McDonagh got back, right? Why are they Isles paying more for Jake Muzzin when he's the same age, less productive, and coming off a season where he missed a ton of games?

Muzzins cheaper with less term to start with. Also, Tampa didn't give up a good prospect, a decent prospect, and a 2nd and a third. Maybe you take out one of the isles 3rds if you are that concerned about minuscule value

Man, I gotta ask you to take those Leafs-colored glasses off for a second. Mac Hollowell is a 24 year old, 5'9" RD who hasn't been able to break out of the AHL at all. I can't find any of the typical websites even considering him among the Leafs prospects, much less a "decent" one. And Ty Voit is a 5th rounder from 2021, and the highest ranking I can find for *him* is Scott Wheeler calling him the 11th best prospect in your system. Most folks would call Voit a longshot prospect with some potential, and Hollowell is more or less AHL depth at this point in his career.
