Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Gardiner, Jake
  2. Rees, Jamieson
Additional Details:
Montreal isn't in a rush so Rees can go back to the AHL and really kill it down there until one slot opens up in Montreal. Gardiner could block it with his M-NTC but in my world he doesn't because of the ice-time he'll get here hoping to end up like Chiarot next year in FA.
CAR
  1. Petry, Jeff
Additional Details:
Good player, good skater, good stickhandling, not a part of your leadership group.
2.
MTL
  1. Dubois, Pierre-Luc [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Rumours of him coming to Montreal as a winger.
WPG
  1. Dvorak, Christian
  2. 2023 1st round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
Rumours says it's a center with Florida's first rounder, I wouldn't be mad but looking at the Panthers I'd like to put a condition on it. Poehling's added in there cause I don't see the future here but he's still a fine center prospect.

Florida's 20203 1st is top 10 protected.

Does NOT get you Dubois or anywhere close. Habs fans need to give up the dream and wait till he potentially hits Free Agency in 2 years or come up with better offers. Dvorak doesnt move the needle and a florida 1st is at best 20's. So what's the incentive to move him to Montreal when other teams will give them much better prospects and roster players than that.

Other teams won’t because they won’t be able to give him a long terms extension. The best return WPG could get will be at the TDL in 2024

I agree with KPasty, no way Andrew Copp fetches more than Dubois will. In my opinion it would start with an unprotected 1st and Barron. More to add from there, but I would think that would be the start or no point in moving him. Remember, he has never said Montreal was his preferred destination and even if he did. Doesn't mean the Jets need to trade him there. Jets still control his rights for 2 more years, which is way more valuable than a protected 1st and fringe 2C, more likely a 3C in Dvorak. Dubois is a 1C all day every day, highly doubt any team would want to play him as a winger.

Can Montreal actually put conditions on Florida's pick?

No chance Dubois signs that extension. Montreal's best bet is to wait 2 years for Dubois to hit FA and hope they can outbid all the other teams and drastically overpay Dubois.

Unless Petry is coming with half retention the Canes don’t do that.

This is likely close to what Dubois will go for though I think the there will be another piece coming to the Jets like a 2nd or a
B-prospect.

Dubois sunk his value a bit with his announcement so I doubt he'll return a 1st and an A-prospect that many think he's worth.

Finally someone connected with reality, yes Dubois is worth way more but what card does Winnipeg holds in their hands now? Run him on a two year deal and sell him for a similar return as a rental down the line or get those assets in 2022 instead of 2024? Rumour mill around here says Winnipeg's looking for a 2023 1st, a middle six center and maybe a B prospect (Ylonen and Norlinder were pitched in as examples).
