Domi isn't worth that contract. It's a good location for him because he will get playing time, but doesn't make much sense for Chicago.

I thought they were tanking?
I mean Domi's a good player, don't give me wrong but why does Chicago think they need him?

So basically a free 2nd or 3rd round pick if he has 30 points at the deadline

Yeah, but what playoff team is going to want a 4th liner making 3 million? There will be many bigger fish that can be had at the same price.

he 100% is, plus domi over the past couple of years has been a rental player, will get flipped at 50 percent retained, is a relatively young player still really solid and underrated

not a bad idea to sign him with the hopes of flipping him to a contender for an asset at the deadline.

they can trade him at the deadline for picks.... if they can get him to score 50 points might be able to get a 1st +

a great opportunity in Chicago to turn his career around.
If he fits longterm in Chicago- they can resign him, or ship him out at the TDL for a mid pick.

Why doesnt this make sense?

Like you said, he will get an opportunity to play big minutes. 1 year deal if it doesnt work out walk away, if they thrive move them at the deadline.

Chicago signs Domi and AA, 2 of the worst defensive fowards in the league.

That team will be a joke on ice.

He'll probably play middle 6. And the Hawks can retain half.

Both Toews and Kane will both likely be retained for more assets coming back. It gives them 1 spot for either Domi or AA.

That's really where he is. He's a bottom 6 PP specialist at this point in his career.

They can always take back a bad contract in lieu of retention.
