Signing and Trade Explanations

D. Strome
- Narrative is well known. Former teammates in Junior and great friends. Could very well see him getting a little more money, but not even getting qualified could imply not much interest in him at an AAV over $3M. My thought here is giving him a 1 or 2 year deal, giving him the chance to ride with 97 and stack up his numbers. If it goes well, he gets a bag somewhere else once the deal is up.

Marchment
- Really like the player. This gives him pretty good term and money after a breakout year. Again could see him going up to a $4M AAV and even then I'd be happy with it. (up to 3 or 4 years?)

Deslauriers
- Adds the physicality and a good pker.

Campbell
- I am not thrilled about the deal. He has only had half a really good season as a starter. Plus he is already 30. But, he is probably the best option available. Will still rely on Skinner to take 30-35 starts, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Would have liked to see him come in under $5M but the market is pretty slim so its what you have to pay. Plus the Oilers have had success signing former Leafs (Ceci, Barrie, Hyman)

Chychrun Trade
- to me, Chychrun couldn't make any more sense for the Oilers. Obviously a top 4 dman on a good deal is a target for all teams, but its exactly what the Oilers need
1) he doesn't have trade protection. So many times in the past, top players become available with the Oilers on no-trade lists.
2) Chychrun is rumoured to not want to continue rebuilding with the Yotes. Plus their home arena situation is an embarrassment.
3) with Nurse being overpaid by a few million, it would be huge to get a bargain deal that helps even that out.
4) I think a base of Broberg+1st+2nd+JP is a good base. Gives them a top d prospect, a few good picks, and a reclamation project who at worst is a 3rd liner with good advanced stats, but still has a high ceiling.
- I am a huge Barrie fan, but I think have him play 3rd line minutes at his price is just too steep.

Brown Trade
- sounds like its almost a done deal. Just picks and prospects though. So assuming it will be either two 2nds or a 2nd+3rd+prospect. Only 1 year left so hopefully some retention. Not crazy about this deal, as its pretty much a 1 year rental. But sounds like its going to happen.

Could be to any team interested in a 3rd liner.

Could be to any team looking for a good puck mover. Would have said Seattle, but they just signed Schultz.

Sabres have Dahlin and Power, so why would they even be on the list of trade spots

Top of the list alphabetically to be honest… a very minor deal to the greater picture here

Seriously, who is Warren Foegele and why is every EDM ACGM now trading him to us?

Depth forward. Good season with Carolina, struggled this year in Edmonton. As mentioned above, I gave near zero thought on which team. More aimed at moving him for a mid pick to any team. Did not mean to offend haha

Seems a lot to give up for a 2nd pairing defenseman... especially when Holland already refused to include Broberg in a Chychrun trade.

Was that reported? Never actually heard that. I haven’t actually heard anything about oilers being on Chychrun at any point ever haha.
I think Chychruns deal is just very valuable in a cap world. He’s a very solid #3 IMO. These guys are signing for $6M+, so if you can save some money I think it’s worth it. The picks will hopefully be late. Also if you were to make a deal, how could you not look include Broberg? even before the Kulak extension, he would have been locked behind Nurse/Chychrun for 3 years minimum. Add in Kulaks extension, there’s literally no room on the left side. I think Kulak is a perfect 3rd pairing dman who can play up if needed. I still don’t like him being a regular top4. No questions asked he can easily play those minutes. But his game is definitely limited, and he is more of a #5 on a cup winning team. Just my thoughts.

I'm triggered, man. Get outta here.

But seriously. CBJ don't need depth guys. We have a glut of Fs as is.
