This has red flags written all over it. He came out of nowhere (was barely an NHL player before last year) and now he gets a fat contract. Future buyout IMO

He had a crazy year, and if he can repeat even half of that he will easily be worth this contract but if he falls back to earth this will look bad really quickly.

But oh man if it works and he holds up his value from last year it might be the best contract in the league.

I agree. This is too much for such a small resume. Maybe last year wasn't a fluke and this deal will look amazing. But if he regresses, then this will look terrible really quickly.

70 point pace with fourth line minutes

let's see how it goes in Dallas, but really intriguing how it will pan out

Fantastic deal. The guy put up near a point a game last year and is fantastic analytically. 4.5 is well under what he could be worth.

This could be really good or really bad, we'll have to wait and see. Also, Jim Nill signed a guy under the age of 33?! Whaaaaa

WTF Devils. I'd have been all over this. Maybe he just wanted to go to Dallas.

Tons, that being said, FA is well known to overpay almost every player. But there are still some steals.

Yet fans everywhere are cool with Nichushkin signing for 8x$6.25 after having 52 points this season when his previous high was 29 points in his rookie year (8 years ago)

I like that Nill approached our secondary scoring issue, but did he really have to tackle it by signing the most risky UFA option there was? With such a bloated contract too?

If he can put up same points he did with the Panthers this is a great contract but if not it's gonna be a bad contract.

So you’re the stars fan type that’s run with this narrative. Is it still going to be the narrative when ROBO and otter sign their new deals? What about Miro and Hintz? Hell Benn and Seguin aren’t even 33 yet.

This is a very high risk contract. One solid year on a president's trophy team, but good for him for getting paid

I can't get behind that deal - dude never performed like that at any level, not even in juniors. He put up 10 points in 33 GP in 2020-21 getting almost identical minutes (13:13 EV, 0:52 PP in 2020-21 vs. 13:13 EV, 0:51 PP in 2021-22) and skating with Barkov and Verhaeghe; this year he skated with Reinhart and Lundell instead. It wouldn't be unheard of for a guy in his mid-20s to just click as a late bloomer but I wouldn't want to be the one making a $4.25M bet that he's the outlier.
