1.
VAN
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (BOS)
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (MIN)
2.
VAN
  1. Petry, Jeff ($2,750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
See: Brent Burns trade (Boy was I wrong about that one)

Petry is similar to Burns, DiPietro is similar to Makiniemi, and the 3rd has the same conditions as the Burns trade (lower of the VAN and MIN 3rd round picks)

The advantage here is that Montreal gets Ferland back as an LTIR player, so while the Habs aren't dumping the full contract, they're essentially getting 7M with LTIR relief through next season.
MTL
  1. DiPietro, Michael [RFA Rights]
  2. Ferland, Micheal
  3. 2023 3rd round pick (MIN)

Petry wants to stay with his family in the US, that’s why Montreal has to move him. He has 4 boys and his wife is not vaccinated

So you used the Burns trade as a Petry comparable but traded Myers for way more? Burns and Petry hold higher value than Myers.

So basically we trade one older declining d man just so we can trade for another? Seems counter productive. Just scrap that Petry trade. I also think the Canucks only get one of those picks for Myers, likely not both

Myers has positive trade value even without salary retained. The estimated value around the league for him is a 1st.

Not a joke. Friedman polled pro scouts around the league, they came back saying he has positive value as is. Other sources said they'd estimate his value at a 2022 late 1st.

That's a light package for a $3.5M Jeff Petry who is younger, cheaper, and arguably better than a $5.3M Burns.

So much more value. Myers makes 4 million more than he should. Although Gudbranson just got 4+. This offseason is weird.

That's fair, and keep in mind that with this trade the Habs getting essentially 7M in cap relief this season, too. Could upgrade the picks to the 2nd rounder.

In my mind, I don't see any value in Myers at even half retained. However, Gudbranson just got almost 4 times what he should have got. So who knows what is going to happen. It's nuts

Friedman said Myers has positive value in an interview around two weeks ago on lower mainland radio and also before TDL. I can't tell you the exact date or time, but I can assure you he said it. Also said that Vancouver has a price and won't budge. Sources said it was around a late 1st in the draft last Thursday. Take away a bit from that with the 2023 draft, you end up with a late 2nd+3rd

It just goes to show that the league values big D-men. Myers is way overpaid in our eyes but in reality, if he were to be a UFA this offseason, he would probably get 5-6 million per year still. Personally I think it’s dumb that big players are valued so much but that’s just how it is
