Buffalo - Moves to Consider

Description
Obviously, I'm probably off on trade value here, but if you can get something to work at a reasonable price for Marino including Mitts + it would provide great depth defensively and versatility up and down the lineup. Strome is a guy that is pretty comparable to Mitts, just more expensive so use him as a short term replacement or sign a 4th line C and move Hino up w/ Krebs & Olofsson.

Just my thoughts on a few moves that we could still make to continue to improve our roster in the short & long term.

Don't see a point of this trade sense we already have 3 players on the right

Guys, Dahlin played <30 games on the right last year, and I did like him with Samuelsson in that span. BUT, adding Marino gives us a legitimate top 4 RHD who's strong defensively. Again, Sammy was great at the end of last year, but realistically Joki, and Lyubushkin are 3rd pair RHD so there's plenty of versatility still in the lineup.

You can still go
23-26
25-Marino
and rotate the other 3/4 D on the roster

Adding Marino gives affordable positional depth in an overall weak area in our organization.

Realistically he has been a career ~0.5 PPG middle 6 playmaking C who has battled with some injuries and shows flashes of having more to give, but just hasn't put it all together yet. He'd be a really strong 3rd Line center behind Crosby and Malkin who could play up on the wing if needed and can chip in on PP2.

He's still young enough that there is room to keep growing, while also being affordable and under team control for at least the next 3 years

Any chance he ends up as a top 6 forward?

Probably not a first line type of guy, but definitely can play on the 2nd line for ya. It's hard to say, last year it was said that he looked like the best player in camp, but he got hurt in the first game and ended up missing almost half of the season. He started to find his stride late in the year so its kind of a mixed bag

That's fine with me, but what is the backup plan? What if Samuelsson gets hurt?

Like I said in the previous response you can still go with
Sameulsson-Dahlin
Power-Marino
Bryson-Lyubushkin
Pilut-Joki

Depth is a good thing to have and sometimes its okay for a younger player to get scratched so they can watch a couple of games. People act like the scratches never play.. John Hayden played over 50% of our games last year..

Also, I love Samuelsson so don't get me wrong here, but he has played 54 NHL games and we are penciling him in for 25+ minutes a night.. that does seem a little sketchy to me

@littlejerryseinfeld @thewookie1 : only tagging you guys to also get your opinions

There is not a chance in the world they put jokiharju in the press box. They are very high on him.

The team seems to like/value Bryson, Fitzgerald and seemingly pilut. So that would be the backup.

The trade isn't bad value, I just think they are set with their top 7-8 defensemen ( and then the guys they signed for ahl)

Joki is too good to be a 7/8 Dman and I'm not trading Mitts in order to also then trade Joki
