Why is vancouver paying a 3rd to San Jose for the double retention? Should Toronto pay that?

Van gets no benefit from the extra retention

to even out the value of the trade. Its Miller and the 3rd for Robertson, Shakir, 1st rounder. And the leafs flip the 3rd for the retention

That's not landing Kane. Knies or Roberston would need to be in a package

Sandin>Robertson, figured Chicago would prefer to acquire him over Robertson. And Knies won't be moved

Maybe Sandin is better but Hawks are locked up with right handed defenders unless they move Murphy or Seth Jones. Hawks don't have many forward prospects though. Also, was reported yesterday Kane is not waiving during the offseason and will wait to see how the season goes. Good news is, if he says mid season he will waive for x,y,z teams, his cap hit with the Hawks retaining half will only be $2.6m...bad news is a lot of teams will be willing to give up a lot at that point for a game changing winger so maybe Knies is on the table...maybe not but if it's the difference in the Leafs getting a cup...Knies should be on the table.

Sandin is a LHD not RHD

Why did I think RHD? Maybe thinking Lillypad

Hawks have a logjam of LHD young players or prospects as well especially as betting the farm on Korchinski who was drafted at #7 this year and Allan taken in the 1st round last year. They need forward prospects that are locks for the NHL though.

Massive overpay for Nylander. Maybe if you took away the 1st it’d be considered but I still don’t think they would do that

ok. Just figured Sandin is better than all the LHD not named Korchinski for the future and would be of interest. VAN needs D badly so I'm sure switching Sandin for Robertson in the two trades I made would be ok.

how? 80+ point winger for a good prospect, bottom 6 F, and goalie prospect (which truly are a bag of magic beans) and a first is totally reasonable. Could maybe drop the 2nd but people seem to undervalue Nylander a fair bit.

Because the devils have a very realistic probability of finishing bottom 10 in the league again, that 2023 1st is extremely valuable, more valuable than 2 years of Nylander who probably leaves in FA after the deals ends anyway.

Trading up 2 rounds and getting 2 B+ prospects is not a very attractive offer for vancouver. Especially since neither prospect is a RHD or Centre

Shakir plays RD primarily just plays on his off side

1st could be top 7 protected or something. I also think the devils will do better this year. Adding Palat and Nylander, plus the development of their young guys, should get them deep into the wildcard race

Maybe. Vlasic looks really good even though he just turned 21 a month ago. Stillman also looks like a solid lock at the 3rd line. Then there is Isaak Galvas, Allan, Phillips, Kaiser, Beaudin...we just have a logjam of prospects and young players. Unless the Hawks are confident Sandin is a lock for top 3 spots on D, I'm not sure they'd be all that interested in him.

The biggest part of the equation is how many teams does kane waive for mid season? If he says NYR, Vegas, Colorado and the Leafs, then his price will be high (knies) if it's just one team (Leafs) then Robertson and a 1st probably gets it done.
