Trades
DET
  1. Tanev, Christopher
  2. Tkachuk, Matthew [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Hypothetical scenario if Calgary decides to go full rebuild (which I don't think will happen unless Tkachuk refuses to sign long term).
CGY
  1. Berggren, Jonatan
  2. Hronek, Filip
  3. Johansson, Albert
  4. Suter, Pius
  5. Zadina, Filip
  6. 2023 1st round pick (DET)
  7. 2023 2nd round pick (STL)
  8. 2024 1st round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
Picks are unprotected going into what are supposed to be loaded draft classes.

Calgary gets a depth forward that they may be able to flip at trade deadline, a youngish Forward with high upside and a youngish RD who puts up points.

Calgary also gets a promising forward prospect and a promising LD prospect.

I can appreciate that this trade may look underwhelming, but this is a better package than what DeBrincat cost in terms of picks, players and prospects.

Flames arent doing that. A lot of mediocrity for a top winger in the league and a top shutdown defensemen

I agree....but Chicago proved a lack of market/value on a 24yr old top winger that is going to command a big extension (definitely not trying to say that Tkachuk isn't more valuable then DeBrincat because he is imho and hence the bigger offer).

I agree, which was the fun in creating it.

They still got 7th OA when they were blowing up. Calgary isn't blowing up

Depending what Larkin resigns at. I'm hoping for 7.5x8 which is way under value, I'd take a run at Chucky and give him a similar contract that his brother got

I agree with you that Calgary isnt currently blowing up, which is why I said in my description of the trade that it was a hypothetical scenario if Tkachuk won't resign long term. If he does resign long term then obviously this would never happen. If he only signs a 1 yr deal you risk losing him for nothing next offseason, or praying for value at the tdl on a half season rental.

I put Larkin at $9.1 over 8 with the extention in my description....I'm hoping it would be mid $8s or lower if it is an 8 year deal, but time will tell.

I don’t agree. If Berggren & Johanssen would be top 15 picks in this past draft knowing what we know about them both now. So it’s actually a massive overpay on Detroit’s end. I’d be furious if the wings did this.

I agree that they both look great and have tons of potential....but you never know how that potential transfer to the NHL....I guess what I am trying to say is that I view this deal as risk v. reward for both teams.
