If Drury could get a 3rd and a 4th for Gauthier and Hunt, he would have personally drove them to the airport. I think a 6th for Gauthier would be possible, but more likely a 7th and there are plenty of Hunt types available in Free Agency. Reaves isn't being traded, for better or worse.

It’s a shame Gauthier is railed on so hard. The guy has never been given a enough opportunity anywhere. The guy has tools he just NEVER plays enough to get better

Gauthier had plenty of chances, however he is maddeningly inconsistent. He takes bad penalties and only knows one move, go to the net. A trade to a team where he will get middle 6 minutes is what he needs. Hopefully he turns it around, but he reminds me of a Michal Grosek who the Rangers got from the Sabres, has all the skills and talent, but hands of stone.

He should change his game and just be a big banging forward. 4th liner. He could be very effective that way, he’s big and fast

Cannot argue with that, he has speed and size. Best thing for him would be to go to a young team with no pressure where he will get minutes. Hopefully, Drury makes that happen, as it would be best for all parties.
Minnesota declines.. Minnesota isn't Paying for your cap dump 4th liner / extra body/ ahl
Not for a 3rd no, but I could actually see there being a loose fit with Gauthier and MN. If he adopted a 4th line style, he could play on the right with Dewar and Duhaime. And he could potentially earn an oppty on the GREEF line during injuries.
He's also not a "cap dump" at 800k - you're reaching way too hard to be negative with that comment.
In all likelihood, it doesn't happen - but I don't think it's an awful idea by any means.

Zero hockey iq, zero finish and soft as a butter. Lucky to get a 7th. If anything, for another ahler. Hunt possibly a 6th. Reaves could fetch a 5th, all teams with cap room would be in. Yet he's too important off ice, for softies and especially for Lindgren, Trouba, Kreider vs annoying piles, Wil's on Roids...

Bad penalties? He took 3 penalties last year...drew 9. If you want to see bad penalties- see Ryan Strome or Ryan Reaves.
Hands of stone- can't disagree. Don't like your assessment of "one move to the net"- because that move consistently works...if he'd only finish every so often!
Hockey IQ- everyone seems to go there...I guess at this point he shows little- but it's amazing how a little luck and a little success can change an assessment like this- if he is only given a chance to play! At 800 K he's almost as cheap as roster spots come...and the guy has the size and speed to be able to open up ice for others. And he back checks like his next paycheck depends on it!
Don't think asking a 3rd is out of line. Any 3rd is a low % NHLer- so taking that flier on a guy- who if he figures it out in the NHL can be dangerous- is a worthwhile risk to take....and even if he becomes AHL fodder- that's not the end of the world.

14 penalty minutes in 30 games the year before, he seemed to always take high sticking penalties in the offensive zone or interference penalties for no reason from memory. I wouldn't say going to the net move works consistently when he scored a grand total of 5 goals with the Rangers the past 2 years. If the Rangers could get a 3rd round pick for him, that deal would have been completed already. He certainly has potential, but he will never be a top 6 guy here, they don't seem to even be willing to use him in a top 9 role. I'd rather he get traded for a 5th or 6th and get a chance somewhere else.

A 5th or 6th is not enough…no need to give away a player making 800K- if he sits as 13F, that’s not hurting the team…and I wouldn’t be surprised if Tampa or Colorado would be more than willing to send a 5th to NYR to take a chance on him- then he finds his way and scores 25 goals!

I think if Drury could get more than a 5th or 6th he would have been traded already. Rangers are likely to carry one forward and one d-man because they are so tight against the cap. If that is the situation then Hunt is likely to be the guy sent to the minors to keep Gauthier and at the low cost Hunt makes, I'd expect him to get claimed. Gauthier has no future here, trade him for what you can get. Doesn't matter to me that he may work in Tampa or Colorado, he will never work here and we have other kids who could make an impact Cuylle, Trivingo, and Othmann if he doesn't go back to juniors.

Can't disagree with what you're saying...but besides- who knows if Drury is done wheeling and dealing for now. One thing I will say, though- you're right Gautier has no future here- at the moment. Nor does Hunt...and you can put Hajek in that category as well. The guys you mention- and there are even a few more- are the future. But they are probably not ready to start that future right now. At least we can't depend on that. With that said, if Krav is another disappointment or Blais is very slow coming back from his injury or Kakko comes to camp not fully healed from last year or Jones is not up to 3rd pair
or 1 (or a few) Dmen get nicked up....NYR really do need these guys hanging around. And especially in the cases of Gaut and Hajek- both guys have the size, speed , and skill. If either has that light bulb in their head suddenly turn on- and suddenly "get it"- both would become instantly valuable. Believe me- I'm not holding my breath on this...but crazier things have happened. Late bloomers do emerge. And I would care if Gaut was kicked to the curb- only to find his way with another team.
