Barzal in 2023

Created by: Detroiter23
Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 14, 2022
Published: Jul. 14, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Post Lottery / Pre Draft Trade

Barzal may not like the direction of the NYI due to their age, capsituation and their overall drop from contention. Hes due for his big payday and he has Arb rights. If he where to ask for a trade, they would try to trade him (for a good package ofc).

Could these pieces fetch Barzal?

This would leave 35m to resign the following players
- Seider
- Raymond
- Vrana
- Berggren
- Rasmussen
- Hronek
- Veleno
- Johansson

Even If the cap goes up by 1-2M, they cant all be kept. Vrana could fetch a nice return If made avaliblie during the 23/24 Season while under contract. Hronek could also fetch something due to his RFA status. A player such as Johansson could take his place in the lineup, and then we call up a player like Sebrango to take a 3rd pairing roll. A player such as Hanas or Niederbach would also be able to take on a bottom-6 roll later on. Players such as Ras, Söderblom and Veleno all have the potential to play on a 3rd line and be decent at both ends of the ice, 5v5 and on special teams.

Is the trade any good? Is it to much quantity, to much protection on the picks or even anything in there of interest for NYI? If the picks dont hold enough value, would a potential Top 12 pick and a top-5 protected 2024 1st do any better?

If Fabbri was on waivers , isles wouldn’t claim him. Zadina is a perimeter player who likely tops out as a decent middle 6 wing, and Wallinder is nothing special.

You would have give more incentive for the isles to trade Barzal , this isn’t it. Not even close. I’ve never understood why fans on this site think quantity for quality is enough for a top line center in his prime

Would you take 2023 and 2024 1st (top 10 protected) , Bellows , Robin Salo, and Josh Bailey for Larkin?

Wallinder is nothing special. 🤭

Your hockey knowledge is definitely nothing special.

Ironic you bring up hockey knowledge, that’s wallinder biggest weakness. Great physical tools, very questionable decision making

It would have to be in the 5-9 range which isn’t likely. Dubios pulled Patrik Laine in a trade and Eichel with the injury risk got a 1st, high end prospect and a top line forward

This trade would be terrible for the isles

i would prefer a better trade as well but if the pick is high i'd think about it, especially in next year's draft. would have to be fully unprotected tho in case of a lottery win

Bullsh*t your way through arguments much? You read some review from some self proclaimed draft expert from 2 years ago and you think that gives you the knowledge necessary to argue with another teams fan about their players? Wallinder has no problems with "hockey knowledge" whatever the hell that is. He was U20 player of the year in the SHL and played top minutes for one of the best teams. And the comment about Fabbri is borderline stupid. If you think the value of a trade isn't right say so; but don't make random comments about players unless you do the research or watch the player.

I mean, put something in there that meets a need if you're gonna try and do that.

-Fabbri is a 3C at best - I'd just as soon pass on him at $4M AAV.
-Zadina is looking like a middle 6 winger at best. He's been put in every position to succeed by the Wings and hasn't found a way to produce. If I'm making this trade today, I can't really put that high a value on him - he's running out of time to make the leap.
-Wallinder is an interesting prospect but probably a couple years away - and D isn't necessarily a place the Isles need to stockpile more prospects at. If they're trading Barzal, they're going to need forward prospects. And considering you have Edvinsson and Johansson ahead of him in your system, I don't think it's a stretch to say that this isn't really a huge sacrifice for the Wings.

The picks are fine, but overall this is just an underwhelming package for a legitimate 1C. Every thing you've offered is basically an asset that you're not really counting on to be an important part of your team going forward, so why would the Islanders? I'm not saying you have to include Seider and Raymond to make the deal work, but give up *something* young and useful if you're trying to get a player like Barzal.
