Smith is purely replacement-level. He could be a late bloomer, but I doubt it. Not someone you want to lose, but not someone you worry about protecting. I would also consider waiving Oesterle. Berggren is a surprise that there might not be room for him in Detroit. I watched him a lot in Grand Rapids this season and I do think he has a lot to be desired away from the puck, some things to work on for sure, but I thought he would be given a chance to stick in Detroit this season. Who know? Maybe he still will.
