after throwing my computer monitor out the window because the glasses man didn't manage to sign him, i have calmed down enough to write smart people words onto why i think he picked washington:

Washington needs a reliable 2C. Backstrom might be done, McMichael, Lapierre and Borgstrom aren't fully ready and this team wants to spend the next few years trying to bizzaro world it to the Stanley Cup because Ovi ****s off back to Russia and they actually need to rebuild. He wouldn't have gotten those 2C minutes in Toronto. Additionally, it's likely his tenure in Toronto would be a one and done; here he can possibly get himself a longer term deal if he does well and the 9 million they put into Backstrom is freed up.

Very disappointed this dude isn't coming home but whatever.

Steal of a contract. 31 other teams should be kicking themselves in the ass over not doing this deal.

Loading up on one year deals in the event that Backstrom comes back next year is brilliant. And if he doesn't come back and Strome plays well, there's the potential for an extension. Good move, I just hope we can insulate Strome with enough speedy wingers to maximize his effectiveness. I think he's a little overhyped bc he was playing with Debrincat and Kane, but hopefully he can still produce around 50 points

Amazing deal, and still an RFA at the end of it. Nothing to dislike.

Exactly what I thought he would get, 1 year $3.5M deal; good deal for the Caps and good chance for strome to play this season for a meaningful team.

Easy win for the caps. $3.5 million for a 20-goal scorer is a steal. There are a couple of downsides here...

1.) Last year might be a fluke and they could regress this year.
2.) It is for only one year, meaning if they don't regress, they will get a massive raise next summer.

However, only one of those can be true, so again, easy win.
