Aaaand he's on a 4 year deal that's destined to be bought out in 3 years time. Joy.

2 years too long but our RD pool is extremely shallow and only Merkley is ready so it makes a little bit of sense. Manageable cap hit at least.

Why would we buy him out? Just bury him in the AHL. All but $125k can be buried this season, that drops to $100k for the rest of the deal with the minimum wage increase.

Benning is steady and they won't have to worry about 3RD/7th D for a couple of years. It's weird, but not bad.

They were acting like we had an RD ready....Karlsson-Merkley-Laroque is 2 years away, Havelid is 2-3 years away and thats it, there is not other RHD in this system.

Agree, 100%. Saw this and my first thought was "weird". Not the AAV, but the term and in general, it doesn't make sense to me.
