Ideal world I’d want to move girard for a decent nhl defenceman (doesn’t need to be a star but a full timer) with some term sub 2 million plus picks

Not sure if it's in Colorado's best interest to keep him. For the player he is? absolutely. But how are you going to Re-sign Byram and MacKinnon with Kadri there? Compher will be and Johnson, which may help, but then who will fill out the rest of the roster? Probably should find a cheaper 2C and have an all around deeper team

Habs don’t need LD as it’s easily their deepest position and they are currently rebuilding so they would definitely decline this offer, especially since that FLA 1st is unprotected. I think COL would rather trade him for pieces that’ll help them sooner anyway.

Habs sadly cannot afford this deal. Not about the assets but the cap space. Would you consider taking Hoffman's contract as well with the same deal?

Maybe a more nhl ready prospect but def would have to be ELC as it’s the only way to get Kadri

Hoffman and his cap hit defeats the purpose of why the avs would move girard to open up cap to keep kadri

And to the point of value, Hoffman doesn’t hold any sort of value like that.

Montreal can't afford to make that deal (not that they need Girard right now if they could).

The biggest issue with moving anybody with term and high salary right now to clear cap space is that no one has cap space. If you're not willing to take cap back, you'll have almost no leverage.

I think the deal is fair, but I think the Habs say no. They aren't gonna win with Girard today, and they would need to start buying players out in order to make this happen.

If you were looking for a first round draft pick I was suspect you would need to trade for a very low one like from a Stanley cup contender to make it at all enticing for the other team. But the paradox is they would also need the cap Space.

The only pick that meets that criteria in my mind would be Tampa Bay‘s next year because it is owned by Chicago who has cap space and is rebuilding.

With caps space being at such a high premium and how many teams did not trade their first round draft pick for next year showing the GM’s look at those as a premium as well I think you might have a tough time getting a first round draft pick for $5,000,000+ defenseman but I could be wrong.
