Those concerned about term seem odd. He is making 2.1 mil. Lets assume those people are happy with two year term. In 2 years the dump amount will likely be about 1.4 million. So the risk here is 700 k of unwaiveable salary? Seems a pretty low risk, should be fairly easy to waive/dump/trade if it comes to it.
I am much happier with 2.1 million for 4 years than 3 mil for 2 or 2.75 for 3 or something. Frankly I'd have tried to see if he'd done 1.9 for 5
A horrible overpay and term for fourth line LW/Centre. I guess the Leafs were impressed by 4 assists in 17 games for the Flames playoff run.
If Jarnkrok gets 2.1m what is 35 point Engvall worth at arbitration,

Jarnrkok is a third liner. He had 30 points and the year before he had 13 g and 28 points in 49 games.
This is a good comparison for Engvall, because this was a UFA who also is a better C. So if he gets 2.1, than Engvall should be below 1.75.

I just didn't see the point of 2.1m and especially 4 years for Jarnkrok. Leafs have (and most teams) have lots of bottom left hand shots LWer and centres.

We actually don't have that many good depth players, so this addition was needed.
Good cap hit for a 30 year old bottom 6 role player who had 1 outlier with Calgary last year but is otherwise a solid bet for 10-15 goals and 30-40 points.
Those screaming about his playoff production aren't looking at his years with Nashville. He was clutch for them.

I particularly like it as it increases our flexibility in the line up. I can see him playing in the top 6 and bottom 6 and would rather in a pinch see him in a top 6 c to cover injury for a couple games than Kampf. The cost is low. He's a jack of all trades type for 2 mil. I like it

He's a middle six player not bottom 6. C/w. I'm pretty happy
I am starting to wonder if teams are running out of money (cap space) and a better deal could be had with some patience.
There are 14 teams currently with over $5M cap space. 2 of those are playoff teams.
If you are a UFA who want to be on a playoff team, they won't offer much.

I think you’re absolutely right, and that’s why Kadri and Klingberg haven’t signed yet. I don’t think they’re going to get the contracts they want. Playoff teams can’t afford them, and even most of the non-playoff teams probably have limited interest because they’re either trying to tank, or they have a younger core that they’ll need cap space to sign when they become RFAs. Instead of looking for something to take them to the end of their careers, they may have to take short-term deals and hope that the cap goes up and they’re still at the top of their game by the time they hit the market again.
If the Bunting camp asks for something ridiculous I’d be more than comfortable with Jarnkrok full time in the top 6 next year. Use that money else where
