The Flames should take the compensation if NJ is willing to go with a Vanecek/Blackwood tandem

A lot to give for a player who will be a UFA after that one year deal. Makes absolutely no sense for Jersey.

Pretty sure he stays an RFA. Could be wrong but it shows he’s an RFA in this

Nope he's can be a UFA next summer. Seven "full" years in the NHL next summer. You're right it does show RFA.

Him being a UFA after one year is the reason CGY won’t match

In the games Blackwood/Bernier/Daws started they played at a 79 point pace. Now Blackwood is healthy and Vanecek is better than either Bernier or Daws was last year.

That’s not a great bet, considering Vanecek is solid, and Blackwood was hurt all year. This team is going to be surprising, if they can actually stop a beach ball next year

Exactly. But no team is going to going to offer sheet for one year either for the same reasons.

Depends. If you’re convincing him to sign the OS, good odds you can get him to sign as a UFA

Cap friendly gotta update that. I mean couldn’t a player who plays from day one of their ELC sign a 4 year deal and dip or no?

Now it hasn't worked for Calgary to get an extension. No reason for Tkachuk to resign with Jersey. Only reason why MT would sign is it gets him 1.5m more than his QO from Calgary this year Jersey can just wait, keep their picks and spend their cap on Tkachuk next summer or any player next summer or maybe UFA(s) this year.

Players often sign contracts but return to junior...so its part of the ELC "slide". To reach UFA, players usually under the age of 27, has to to "play" seven NHL seasons.
