Beauvilier for Kylington

Created by: ms39
Team: 2022-23 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 16, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Islanders pull off two Lou moves in 1) Making a Hockey Trade, and making that trade for 2) a Puck-Moving Defenseman. Flames get a winger they lost out on when Gaudreau left, plus a young lefty defenseman to fill the Kylington gap. (Theoretically, this lets the Flames more easily re-sign Tkachuk and Mangiapane.) Islanders then sign LI native Sonny Milano to a one-year prove it deal to fill the Beau void. To clear space, Islanders send Panik, Bode Wilde, and a 6th to Chicago for a 4th. Chicago needs bodies (Panik), and Wilde (who played junior in Chicago) could get a chance at least in the AHL since his anti-vaccine status may not hold him back with a different organization.

The JFresh WAR Roster Builder has the Islanders looking at a projected 109 points (mostly due to the WAR cheat code that is Sorokin-Varlamov) and these moves conservatively bump the team up to 111.

All contract projections made using Evolving-Hockey's projections. (I did go a little high for Kylington, who’s projected at about 4x3.3 but whose market value on his Athletic player card is $6.7M, and a little low on Romanov who's projected at about 7x3.7 but I see him taking a bridge deal.)

Just an unnecessary and bad move for the Isles.

Calgary definitely adds here, they are cap strapped and Kylington could easily be acquired for a 2nd round pick + a bit more.

Wouldn’t do Beau for Kylington and a 3rd, let alone adding Salo.

Chicago has a lot of defensemen like Wilde in their pipeline, so I think that they would turn it down. With the rebuild/teardown I also don't think they give up a 4th in a deep draft in 2023.

I don't think Beau for Kylington is a bad basis to start the deal but Calgary adds if Salo's getting added. It's tough to find a prospect to make it match - Coronato and Pelletier are obvious nos, is Zary too strong of an ask? I don't know. But I think adding a decent forward prospect to the Calgary side evens it out.

Funny because he could have been claimed off waivers by any team before last season

Moving Beau out for D when you added Romanov makes ZERO sense. They have their top 4 and will add say a Ryan Murray for LHD next to Mayfield and Salo start season as 7th D. All this team is score less goals than the current version. Milano is not Beau
