Description

This is a team that would struggle mightily to win games, which is what this organization should want this off-season. These moves give Montreal a ton of cap space next off-season. I think Montreal needs to let Harris and Barron play in Laval to develop further, and assess them throughout the season.

If Price came back, Montreal would still be under the cap. I expect Drouin, Byron (Monahan and Khudobin based on my trades) to be moved during the season, or at the deadline. Hopefully they will have some sort of good season, to be worth something at the deadline. I also would not be surprised to see Edmunson and/or Savard traded as well during the season/at the deadline. But it is not so easy to just have a fire sale. You need to be above the cap floor as well.

I am not on the Dubois train. Would he be a good player to have at 2C? Yes, absolutely. But to give up all the assets Winnipeg wants, for a guy who has never surpassed 61 points and is an offence only player? I just don't get it. Especially after what Montreal just gave up for Dach. Let Dach play 2C this season, and see what he has to offer, and how he develops. Dubois likely comes to Montreal when they are ready to compete anyway. There is no rush at all. IF they make a trade for Dubois, I am not giving up more than Dvorak, B prospect, and a second round pick. Not sure I would even do that until at least next off-season.

This year will probably be painful. But with the direction this organization is headed, I think and hope that it will be worth the pain.

Before you comment, yes. I know Dallas would need to make more moves to make this work.
Burns and a prospect went for two prospects and a pick, so I am assuming Petry will get something similar. But with taking Khudobin, and Hughes stating he wants an NHL d-men back, I think this deal makes sense.
Hughes also said he does not want to retain, but that will be very tough to do.

This is a strange one, I know. However, I have read in a few places that Calgary is not confident with Vladar as back-up this season, if they are going to be in the hunt again. With Gaudreau gone, I think Calgary will struggle this year. I hope I am wrong. But if they want to compete, Allen would be a great 1B/backup for the Flames. Would solidify their goaltending for this season.
My logic was a first round pick for taking Monahan's contract, then a second and prospect for Allen. (Goaltending market is very thin. And with the retention, I think he would definitely fetch a second).

I could have SWORN that Dadonov invoked his NTC to block a trade to Anaheim at the trade deadline. What makes you think that he'd waive it now?

Honestly at this point i rather trade barrie for a pick so we can use that cap space for a cheaper better defenseman so oilers reject.

I’d rather keep what we have tbh. I’d rather gamble on Miller for two years at less than two million per than Petry for 3 years at over six. Especially if Montreal is asking for our best RHD prospect, Hakanpaa, and a second. Taking Dobby only helps for one of the three years. Nothing about this is smart for Dallas and a trade has to be good for both sides. Nill didn’t like the price tag for Petry so he used that cap space for Marchment and Miller and I think that’s the right move 100%. I honestly believe those two guys do way more for this team than Petry would. Having a stud two way forward will make a huge difference when it comes to getting our young center prospects into the lineup. A healthy Miller could easily be a steal. As I said in another thread, banking on internal growth is a crapshoot but I think we have enough young talent that hoping one or two sticks isn’t unreasonable. That and a better coaching system.. we might surprise some people this year

Will be almost impossible at this point. What team has the space, that is willing to give away a pick? There's Anaheim and Arizona but neither would pay for Barrie. You'd have to pay them! The only team I see with a need on the right side, cap space, while thinking they are contenders is Nashville. Teams are all capped out and why Klingberg will probably have to settle for a 1 year deal.

These ACGMs are almost fruitless at this point for 2022-23. There is no more money to spread around.

You cant compare Colin Miller and Jeff Petry. One is elite and the other is a 3rd pair Dman. At this point I don't think he's close to being dealt because teams have no money left and Hughes has been pretty consistent in his process of thinking. Petry is going to have to accept playing in Canada with his wife calling the shots.

I was saying I believe a healthy Miller AND Marchment make the Stars a better team than just Petry. And they didn’t cost anything but cap space. When said I’d rather gamble on Miller over Petry I was talking the big picture. Cap hit, cost to acquire, how they compliment what we currently have and have coming, etc
