Why would Buffalo give up those assets for a rental in a year where they're not making the playoffs

I mean you’re allowed to resign a player in the NHL

Realistically, will that happen? I doubt it. He's going to go to a contender at this stage in his career.

i mean Giroux signed in Ottawa, I know he’s from there but as you said “ he’s going to go to a contender at this stage in his career”

I doubt he would have if we hadn't traded for Debrincat and created a core of five 1st line forwards between the ages of 20 and 24.
I just don't think its a smart move for Buffalo unless theres an extension in place.

His cousin (Craig Rivet) is invested in the buffalo community and the sabres. Maybe he can convince him to sign

same reason I don't like TRADING for patty kane, if he wants to play here let him sign vs. hoping he resigns and potentially losing assets for nothing Vegas style

An extension coming with the trade is the only thing that makes sense, but at the same time Weegar getting to join a group with guys like Power and Dahlin, not to mention Samuelsson, would boast well for his longevity. The forward group has a ton of potential now and a ton of guys coming down the pipeline. They may not be ready to win a cup now but in two or three years they will be pushing.
