Letang loves Dumo so he isn’t going anywhere and if he were traded it’s certainly not for a 2nd as bad as he was last year. And Malkin on a wing is a really really bad idea

It's been reported that Dumoulin was absolutely one of the guys being talked about on the market.

Moving players with teams capped out is hard. Returns on players is lower than you would expect/want. No team is giving you a first for Brian Dumoulin. Look at what the Penguins got from moving a younger player who was better last season (Marino). You aren't getting a ton back from a player like Dumoulin unless its at the deadline.

Malkin has played plenty of wing in his career. Crosby and Malkin together, especially pre-sullivan was very effective. The Flyers moved Giroux to the wing in his early 30's and his career had a resurgence.

I can’t see the Oilers doing this maybe another team however the oilers already have 3 left side defence who are NHL ready this year and another 2 left side prospects that in the next few years should be good to go.

Dumoulin is expiring so he can be a stopgap for a team that has guys coming up next year. A GM that valued old Duncan Keith probably likes him.

We don’t need a stopgap
Nurse is our top left D
Kulak is a solid second line
Broberg is looking like he is NHL ready
Neimelainen and Samorukov both are looking like they could handle a third line placement at least part time in case of injury.

On the right side which we actually need to improve is
Ceci solid second pair defenceman
Bouchard is a solid 2 way defenceman
Barrie is a solid offensive defenceman however needs some work on his defensive play also likely to be traded
Our prospects on the right side are kinda weak
