No. The Oilers dont have cap space for that. even if Montreal is retaining. If they move Barrie they will need that cap space to add another RHD.

Not sure this is all that beneficial to either team. It’s clear now that there’s no star RHD UFA riding to the rescue in Edmonton. Likewise, while the Habs are awash in wingers, this trade guts the middle-6. Losing Drouin and Dadonov would leave the Habs right back where they ended last year, except replace Petry with Barrie.

What about just Dadanov at 50% retained for Barrie straight up? Oilers get about 2 million in cap space. Dadanov a relatively low risk middle-six rental for the Oilers for the season.

The problem is that there's virtually nothing to backfill Barrie on the Oilers roster should they trade him for anything other than a RHD.

Edmonton can manage its winger situation through bargain-bin free agents, rookies like Bourgault and Holloway, and by retaining Foegele and Puljujarvi. There's nobody in Edmonton's system that's ready to take full-time minutes from Barrie.
