We have plenty of NHL ready defenseman that are all better than Pettersson (or at least his contract). Z not available, veteran presence is key for us

By moving Pettersson, a solid second pairing LD, the Penguins are left with a bunch of unproven guys behind Dumoulin (who has had some injuries and struggles over the past two years). That's a problem and not one worth having for Girgensons.
