Dubois actual value right now for the Habs

Created by: JeffGorton

Description
Why would the Habs give up any futures for a player they can get for free in 2 years? All Dubois would do is make the Habs draft pick worst next year and the year after. Only thing that the Habs miss is the 8 year contract which is fine since who wants t0 sign a 26 year old to 8 years.

Jets could just send him somewhere else for a rental type return (A little more than the Toffoli deal) but most teams wont give that up unless they can guarantee a signing.

Only way I see the Jets trading Dubois somewhere else is if they retain 50% and go on full rebuild. But Cheveldayoff isnt that type of GM.

So this is the value the Habs would let go to acquire Dubois early

That value is being generous. The Habs shouldnt give up anything for Dubois. Just let him sign in 2 years as an UFA

Personally, I will wait few months because his value will going down during the time, especially if he didn't sign with the Jets (I'm sure Cheveldayoff will give him a 8 years contract, but he will always refuse it).

Ok you can get him in 2 years and while you wait Winnipeg can trade him to a team who wants his services for 2 years

This is getting more ridiculous by the day, any decent rental gets a 1st, so it starts there, then there’s a need for a roster spot and cap room, so dvorak is probably the answer in that scenario, and then there’s a opportunity to win the trade and a prospect in a position of need. Not sure of the right answer there. Rangers buy copp at the deadline for a greater package than you have in this scenario, even hayes to the jets got a greater haul. Dog days of summer do get some interesting theories getting thrown around.

The problem is Dubois can perform like a 70 - 80 pts per season player with the Habs, that's why Cheveldayoff want a good return for Dubois.

Oh this is hockey Blasphemy, saying PLD is worth less than McDavid or MacKinnon! My God man how could you say such a thing! PLD's value right now is slightly more than what Adam fox was worth when he pulled the "I won't sign anywhere but NY"! I would say the true value of PLD will be close to what Eichel got (Alex Tuch, Peyton Krebs, a first-round pick in 2022, and a conditional second-round draft pick for 2023). Which when you consider that Monreal needs to move players not futures in any trade you are talking Armia=Tuch two middle 6 forwards with similar playing styles. Krebs=Kidney or Farrell prospect worth about a 2nd round pick. Dvorak's value has decreased a bit and we overpaid for him a bit. So let's say he is still worth just a 1st. So that just leaves the 2nd round pick to be covered but since Dubios is not on the same level as Eichel does it really need to be covered? IMO it does not, Eichel is an elite 100+ point player Dubios is not. The deal would be something like Armia + Dvorak + Kidney, Farrell or a 2nd, unless there is some crazy fan out there that thinks PLD is worth more than Eichel.

Edit** The other thing the Jets have working against them is the clock. You really want to take PLD to arbitration where they likely award him 8-9 mil on a 1 year contract? I think that 8 or 9 Mil counting against the Jets cap could be spent on other upgrades
