He won’t get an eichel level return, but I’d watch out for someone to give up similar value to what Duchene got in 2017. Guys like Dubois aren’t easy to find and someone will pay thru the nose for a chance to resign him in two years.

Idk why people think we need to trade for PLD, MTL has the bigger end of the stick, everyone knows PLD wants to sign here in 2 years, we're not contending even with PLD in the line up so why not just tank for bedard and sign PLD in 2 years for free

The pick will be a lottery pick even with PLD. He takes the team from being the worst to the 5th worst. Pick is 100% a top 10 pick even with dubois

Realistically it would be in Montreal’s best interest to get him now and sign him when cap is flat. It is slated to rise sharply in 2 years and getting him locked in now might save Montreal 10-15M over his contract (ballpark estimates of course at 1-2M more per year)

Reason being if PLD is traded to a team which he becomes familiar with and likes it, MTL may not be in his plans in 2 years. If he has come out now, pay for him, sign him long term and this ensures you have the guy locked down. With Hoffman and Dandonov/Anderson you get a solid second line, suddenly you may not end up in the bottom and get some good breaks. The biggest question is in Goal, Allen can’t be the no1 so if Price ain’t coming back you get 10M$ of cap room but need a solid 1st goalie and there are none right now in UFA.
