Necc has been coming along really nicely and has been one of the under reported stories of the leafs so I doubt fans of other teams realise just how effective he has been. His arb case was a lot stronger than you think it was and we kept him cheap for another year. Good deal.

This pretty much confirms that there will be another move made though soon. All flags point to kerfoot (as I've been saying for months now)

did any of us really have him earning 2.25 mill... at that price i'd rather have someone who has a playoff goal

Fair. But I really want to see all the comments from the same people who for a year straight traded this guy and Mikheyev “anywhere for picks”

Maybe on a 3 or 5 year deal @ over $2.

They better trade Kerfoot soon or they can say goodbye to Sandin

Oh look, here's the next most common ACGM cap dump.

Figured Kerfoot and Holl were feeling lonely already.

I would not have traded kerfoot pre Jarnkrok signing

Fair value for him, however Toronto is now over the cap and will have to trade someone.

So capped strapped that they are worse than last year and still not cap compliant.

Surprised it’s not on a 2 or 3 year deal at that AAV but very well deserved.

Engvall is very much under appreciated

In a vacuum, this is a good deal. Toronto is a bit strapped for cash, so I don't know if this is the best use of their very limited funds.

I don't understand this signing. A one-year contract carries Engvall straight to free agency and unless Jake Muzzin is willing to waive his NTC, virtually forces a Kerfoot trade, thereby lowering HIS value even further. Why not do a three-year deal and get some additional term if he's a productive player?

2: Engvall only wanted 1 year

I like it. If he sucks we can let him go and not be stuck with him. If he's good extend him at a slight increase foe 3 years like Foegele

Alexander MacLean at DobberHockey nailed this AAV back in May:
https://dobberhockey.com/2022/05/24/free-agency-2022-salary-projections-for-the-top-150-free-agents/
Pierre Engvall $2,197,500

This is fair value for a reliable 3rd line guy who can contribute on a special teams unit and play up in the lineup when injuries occur.

They also see Robertson and Knies coming this year (Knies as early after his college season). Couple that with Bunting needing a new deal, kinda makes sense.

This also shows they have more faith in Jarnkrok being the Engvall replacement going forward

I came here to say “I can’t wait for all the trades to Chicago for a 3rd round pick”. 😂

I thought it was a bit of overpay. What I don't like are other signings of middling other middling forwards.

That’s at least 500,000 more than he should get. We are almost 1.5 million over with Sandin still to pay
