Zucker doesn't waive. Pens would prefer one 5.5m year of Zucker rather than two years of Wheeler (the same reason you did the deal)

Are you crazy? The Pens should absolutely take that.

Wheeler is not a first line player at this stage of his career

He's washed up, old, and makes $6 million more than what he should be paid. His contract is worse than Zucker's.

It's an awful use of cap space

Yeah, 60 points in 65 games last year. 46 in 50 the year before. What a bum

About to say the same thing. There is only one reason why he is needing to be traded and it's not the lack of scoring

60 pts in 65 games last year.

171 points in his last 186 games.

That does not scream "washed up and old". Wheels is still a top line fwd and is E A S I L Y better than Kapanen, Rust and Rakell.

Why are they looking to trade him. I wasn't away they were.

Wheeler makes the Pens a legit favorite.

that contract is awful and screws us over even more than Zucker’s. We’re trying to get younger while building a contender while also trying to build up the future. One year of Zucker and a 2nd is better than 2 years of Wheeler who is older and more expensive

People have manufactured reasons to put him down. He's an excellent player.

I think the Jets might want a bit more. Wheeler is overpaid, but still a very good hockey player that puts up a lot of points. Zucker is a straight up cap dump.

Older, more expensive and three times the player of Zucker, and I'm a a fan of Zucker.

I think for the Jets, depending on WHY they want to move him will have trouble because of his term and cap-hit. Not because he's not worth it, but the teams that would be interested are likely to have less cap space. It would be more likely playoff teams would want him. The Jets would either need to retain or take a bad contract without affecting the return.

He is a surly grump and as a captain his off ice connections made the room messed up. When Bryan Little and Byfuglien left, the veteran voice left too and the room went to pot

The bad contract is Zucker

I think the Burns trade would be a good equivalent of the type of trade it would take for Wheeler. This would be a bit more than than what Burns got and they still retained on him.

Yeah, it's really hard to peg a value. The 2nd may be enough to do it, or may not. I think it's right on that borderline.

Yeah, I said above I think the Burns trade is a good one to compare against. Burns the same age I think, still playing awesome and it only cost a 3rd, a couple of mid-level prospect and SJ still retained.

Or the Pens send Zucker back...same thing. What could happen would be a 2.5m retain on both players so the 2nd year on Wheels is retained

Yeah, I'm just saying I think the return is the realm of reality give or take a little something. Maybe the Pens add a mid-level prospect.

The Burns trade was less about return and more about culture change and cap space to add players that facilitate that culture change.. I don't think it can be used as a benchmark for Wheeler who is also 2 years younger than Burnsy.

The trade was not about culture change. The return is a good comparison of two old players still playing well. Burns got less than the proposed trade because he's a little older with one more year.

Oh wow I really care about his point totals when his actual individual impacts on scoring chances and possession are mediocre and when he also happens to be one of the worst defensive forwards in the league.
