Eichel

Created by: gopherit
Team: 2022-23 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 17, 2022
Published: Jul. 17, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Going off the beaten path for a more unrealistic scenario. Given Vegas' cap situation, Knights fans how do you feel about potentially giving up Eichel for some slight cap relief involving a slew of affordable players that can not only play right away but grow within the organization?

As for Wild fans, before you freak out, humor me with my silly assumptions that would make this work.

Assumptions:
1. Eichel becomes a PPG player and establishes himself as our bona fide No. 1 C.
2. Patrick is able to replace EE on the GREEF line with his physical stature.
3. Bellows turns into Niederreiter 2.0.
4. Dumba stays healthy and the Brodin-Dumba line is back to being a bona fide top line.
5. MAF stays healthy, Dumba stays healthy, Greenway stays healthy, and does everyone else.
6. No one regresses a ton and Rossi has a Calder contending season.
7. I'm not an idiot.

Now obviously assumption #7 is the biggest reach of them all but if EVERYTHING goes our way, I think this team has the best chance in franchise history to make it to the 2nd round of the playoffs (~4.2%).

Additional Details:
How far off?

EE - One of the best 2-way centers. Workhorse. 3rd line center. Maybe 2nd line with great supporting cast.
Boldy - nearly PPG rookie with very high upside.
Gaudreau - Serviceable center on a great contract that can play up and down the lines.
Addison - young, offensive RHD
Haight - our first 2nd round pick of this past draft.

tl;dr you get 4 starters (2 top line youngsters, 2 mid-tier players on great contracts), a prospect, and a '23 1st (Top 5 protected).

Isles will just keep Bellows, Jost and Kulikov don’t fit a need.

Honestly, this was not the trade I figured folks would immediately pounce on. That being said, I do have legitimate interest in bringing in Bellows. What's a reasonable package you'd be willing to accept for Bellows?

It's crazy people always complain about small moves like that.

On the Eichel trade, I feel like they're getting back more than they gave for him tbh. So, if Min did offer this, I could definitely see them cutting their losses.

Ideally he plays full time this year, and speculation is he probably already signed a deal since he did not elect for arbitration.

But if he was being traded the team would value picks or prospects more. Maybe Filip Johansson, or a 2nd.

It’s not complaining, it’s pointing out that the trade doesn’t fit a teams need.

I agree. I didn't view your original comment as a complaint, more constructive criticism. Which is kinda what these forums are all about.

Filip Johansson is no longer on the team, do you mean Simon? I'd be willing to trade Kulikov + a 3rd for a 6th or 7th in exchange. How does that sound?

We also have plenty of defensive prospects. Lambos, O'Rourke, Faber, and Peart might be too rich for my taste but I'd be open to parting with Hunt, Master, or any of the D prospects we drafted this past draft.

Honestly the value is pretty good on the Eichel trade. Vegas let him get the surgery, played him to get the rust off per se, and ate a season of the salary, so I can see why the value would be a little higher right now.

The flaws I see in the deal, I don’t see Vegas wanting to retain even a million for 4 years in a near flat cap timespan.

Also, I heard a rumor Patrick is still struggling from his last injury (probable concussion) and may start on LTIR if not while year again if no improvement.

Meant Simon, sorry about that.

The Isles lack draft capital and prospects, Simon and a 3rd or just a 2nd would be Bellows value I think. It would really depend on how the scouts view the different prospects. Don’t really see Kulikov as being of interest with the acquisition of Romanov and Aho/ Salo being signed to 1 way deals. Most likely they are rotating for the 6/7 spot.
