Miller or Garland to the Wild

Created by: Angusc
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 18, 2022
Published: Jul. 18, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
It's most likely a no for both trades from Minnesota, but just curious if the team needed more offense based on their first round exit from St Louis.

In the Miller trade, Rossi can be replaced with Calen Addison if he is more valuable. Yes, I know Dumba isn't a great defencemen, but most likely he will be included since he addresses our need in acquiring a right shot D.

On the other hand if Minnesota wants Garland instead and is not willing to trade Dumba, I would do Addison or Rossi and a 2nd.

Canes third pair at the moment would be Bear and Coghlan on the third pair, both right handed, so Chatfield is the odd man out. But if Canes find a LD then Bear is probably traded. We should trade Dermott for Bear.

That's a high price for Miller. At this point we would be very lucky to get Rossi and a 1st.

I absolutely wouldn't do this if I was the Wild. Rossi's ELC (similar to Boldy's) is WAY too valuable in their current cap crunch. I'd also say that the pick/prospect haul from a Dumba trade (Similar to Lindholm?) would put a solid dent in the actual ask for the Canucks. *IF* Dumba got a 1st, 2 x 2nd (Or ok-young player like Vaak, again just using the Lindholm trade as an example), this would essentially turn into 2 x 1st+2 x 2nd+top prospect (Rossi). For one year of a retained Miller that the Wild *most likely* wouldn't be able to re-sign? No thanks.

I wouldn't do this as a canucks fan, Dumba is just horrible and another bad contract, Rossi and a 1st are nice though

Dumba's contract expires next summer and he could be flipped with some salary retention at the deadline for another asset, the Canucks would say yes so fast if that offer was actually on the table. As OP said, they're aware both trades are a no so it doesn't need to be said.

Vancouver placed 5th in their division last year. They wouldn't be taking a step back swapping out an older player for a blue chip center that would surely make their roster this year and a 1st + whatever Dumba yields at the deadline. They're not a Cup contender. lol

Ur not getting Rossi alone for Miller. When will Canucks fans realize ur not getting a top 20 prospect and more for a guy whose about to turn 30 on an expiring contract? Before this year his career high in points was 72 so teams would be buying high. Teams see right through that and considering what forwards have been getting traded for lately and the small market at this time, Canucks fans shouldn’t expect much of a return for Miller. I bet it will be less than Fiala’s and I thought that was a horrible trade

we also played at a 100 point pace under a new coaching staff Vancouver's roster was held back by green, like i said Rossi is a good piece but it's not enough for us to make the trade

I think the Canes would take a 3rd for Bear and run. Bear will probably cost $2M+ to re-sign and Coghlan/Chatfield are already signed at or around league minimum.

Coghlan and Chatfield will probably rotate in and out as the 3rd pair RD as I think they end up picking up a cheap 3rd pair LD closer to training camp when they have some clarity on whether or not they’re stuck with Gardiner.

What happens with Gardiner drives the situation. Chat likely makes the team and gets a shot at 3RD due especially to his cheap contract and what he showed in spurts when called up due to injuries last year. Coglan could rotate in too but don’t know as much about him. Bear seems very likely to be traded if Gardiner can’t be moved because we need some money for Necas as well. There’s still some work to be done between signing Necas and figuring out the Gardiner Bear Chat Coglan third pairing - moving Gardiner would make everything easier.

Minnesota declines. Minnesota isn't trading Marco Rossi or 1st round pick for rental in JT Miller. This has long been talked about. Rossi is going nowhere..Guerin doesn't like giving up 1st round pick for rental.

No, Garland isn't worth this either

If a player like Rossi was available, or teams were willing to give prospect like him especially this summer with everything going on in free agency , it would have happened. Canucks fans need to realize no team is willing to pay that for rental. Teams know you are on cap hell and also, he can walk as free agent

saying a undersized defensive liability that isn't putting up points isn't worth his contract?

Pretty sure you are the guy who has said, Holl wouldn't make the Canucks a million times and he's better than all RD on your team. Myers sucks he is a legit cap dump and Holl isn't
