if it comes with a cheap extension for Weegar, like 5-6 aav for 5 years, then yes

I can’t see the cap working on an extension

For Chychrun or Weegar? I’d say yes. For Severson? No

You're getting a great young prospect and a 1st for Weegar, but somehow Girard, a top-4 defenseman signed for a team-friendly deal for the next five years, only gets Sam Bennett.

Care to explain?

Yes, I do care to explain. Avalanche signed Manson to an extension which I think drops Girard out of their top 4, I dont see that top 4 changing in the next few years either so paying 5 million to a third pairing guy is really steep so that's why I think they will move him. What they need is a 2nd line center and what you're probably going to argue is that they have Kadri. That's fair, but do they want to sign a 31 year old to a 6+ million dollar extension with term who I cant see being able to replicate last season success? What they get in Bennett is a pretty young 2nd line center with term and a reasonable cap hit who plays a very similar game compared to Kadri. It's fair to think that Florida gets the better package here considering everything so I can see there being some midround picks to balance it out, but it looks prettier as a 1 for 1, so I put that.

Agree on all counts aside from the fact that you think Bennett is a 2C. He's not. He had a great year, but one year of production doesn't get you a top-4 D signed with term. Now, if we're talking Reinhart instead of Bennett? That's a hell of a lot closer. As is, it's a "hell no" from the Avs.

Understandable but I personally believe that Bennett has played consistently enough during his time in Florida (remember he was also outstanding in 2020-21 when he got traded to FLA!) for me to believe this is his actual level, but that's something we'll just have to disagree on, I suppose.

Agree to disagree. He's played well in Florida, no doubt, but he's not worth Girard.
