THE BIGGEST MOVE CBJ CAN MAKE NOW IS

Created by: Bluejackets2000
Team: 2022-23 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 18, 2022
Published: Jul. 18, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Finish their business:
SIgn Laine
Unload Nyquist
Stand down until camp starts
I am intrigued by these line combinations.
First off, Chinakov needs some more development time in the AHL.
Roll the 4 Forward lines evenly.
If Marchenko is as good as advertised, try him with Gaudreau and Roslovic.
Each of the top 3 lines has 2 experienced players with 1 younger player, so that may benefit them all.
The 4th line was arguably our most competitive last year for the relatively short time they were together (due to injuries and personal stuff).
They overachieved last year compared to where they were projected to finish.
The team improved drastically this offseason.
See what they can do, and if they are in the hunt come January/February, buy a rental center at the TDL (JT Miller, Bjugstad, etc.)

I like this mix simply because there is no way Lars could play any of those top 3 lines for more than 20 mins. I really suspect that overplaying the top line last year contributed to it getting out worked defensively on most nights. Split the ice time more evenly and keep everyone fresh so they can compete hard on every shift. That will make the biggest difference in them being able to improve the defensive situation imo.

If there was any way to switch the pick for Bemstrom I’d do that first.

I agree completely. I liked it when Torts rolled the lines evenly.
Sometimes game situation dictates otherwise (too many penalties for or against, injuries, or someone is just getting outplayed on the ice and they have to juggle lines to fix).

With the lines above, Gaudreau's vision and passing ability will hopefully help set up the other 2 players and get them scoring early/often (Roslovic was looking very good the last 15-20 games last year).
The same goes for Voracek's passing skills with Sillinger & Laine. The only concern is the ability of this line to keep up defensively (Sillinger's youth, Voracek's age, & Laine's attentiveness to the D zone).
The 4th line will be very competitive, forecheck well, and get their scoring chances like last year.
The wild card line is the 3rd line, IMO: Johnson's readiness for the NHL & Jenner's ability to set up Bjorkstrand.
Sometimes Bjorkstrand disappears for long stretches, 6, 8, 10 games at time.

Still think letting Bemstrom walk is a bad idea...

I also still believe in him reaching his potential (or close), but someone has to go.

Johnson and Chinakov could use at least a little AHL time, but I think Marchenko needs to be on the NHL roster to avoid stunting his development. There just aren’t enough spots without putting Bemstorm or Marchenko on the fourth line, and I don’t think that’s good for either of their development either.
