Drouin doesn’t have trade value, especially not Sam Girard trade value.

Get rid of the taxi squad. That's not happening.

I much rather have Girard going to Montreal than PLD

I postulate - however unlikely it is - that Drouin redeems himself in a contract year and becomes a worthwhile TDL asset at 50% retention, especially with his history with MacKinnon. I also postulate that Harris steps up after an encouraging first couple of games and becomes a young, viable, cheaper, 3rd pairing to let Byram take Girard’s spot on the top-4.

That’s a lot of IFs, but it would be a creative way to use Drouin, LHD prospect and expandable picks to fetch a defenseman under reasonable terms for the rebuild.

If Drouin pops off and has a perfect season, he would be a great rental on the market. But that’s unlikely for the player Drouin has been in his career. And even if that happened, you’re not getting 4 years of Sam Girard for a rental. At best you’re looking at a pick or a prospect.
