Chytil is not a cap dump. He is worth a 1st on his own to someone. I have to assume this trade was for a rental or something at the deadline, because that's a huge loss to NYR there.

I definitely understand that we'll be losing Chytil with the Trocheck signing, but you've got to get something better out of him than that

That package should get a late 1st at minimum..

Also, talk about screwing the long term cap of the team. I think NYR have learned the hard way enough times with giving bridge deals (i.e. Stepan, Kreider, Zucc, Hayes, JT Miller, Staal, Girardi, Lundqvist, etc.). Each of those players had a semi-bridge deal 1-3 years and then cashed in. Calling it now, if NYR do not learn Lindgren is going to be the next Dan Girardi. He will be overpaid on his next contract and it will turn into a burden.

Giving Laffy 6+ years should be the priority, followed by Miller for 4+ years.

Chytil's value depends entirely on how he performs this coming season. If he gets hurt again or doesn't produce offensively, he won't be worth a 1st rd pick. He is probably more valuable as a left wing then.

None of these guys are going to sign a cap friendly contract with more term knowing that in a couple years the cap is going up significantly. In addition some of the higher contracts will be ripe for deadline trades as the "kids" jump to the next levels
