I'd do it in a heartbeat if Severson extended as part of the trade. Getting a top pair RHD without giving up a 2023 1st? Hoglander, 2024 1st, and spare parts are very much an easy trade for me.

I don't really get why Canucks fans have given up on Hoglander so easily. His current trade value is way below his actual potential, moving him now would be a mistake IMO.

VAN is giving too much for a rental.
NJD is giving too much for a rental.

If both are extended, becomes more plausible, but that’s a lot of Ifs.

Just wait a year

Haven't given up on him at all, but to get a top pairing RHD you have to give value. Hoglander is going to be a solid middle 6 winger, but the Canucks have a surplus of that right now. Hog might not start in the top 9 this year, and with Lekkermaki, and maybe Klimovich, McDonough, etc it's probably a position of depth.

I'd absolutely give up a future middle 6 winger, a 1st two years from now, and some tidbits for a guy (w/ extension) would play 22-23 minutes a night on the right side for the next however many years. I think it's crazy not to. The guy is about to turn 28, he can probably play top pair for 5 years? And play top 4 after that till end of his contract? I will take that over a middle 6 winger and a guy who won't make the league till probably 2026 or 2027.

Severson is too old for our core. We need somebody who can play with Hughes for the next decade. Severson isn’t that guy. Höglander has some huge potential. Giving up on a 21 year old with that much potential is basically asking for a future YouTube trade tree video showing how much we got fleeced

Personally, I don't see Hoglander with huge potential. I don't think he's got a top line ceiling. He's solid potential, but not star potential.

I agree we need a guy who can play with Hughes for the next decade, but I literally don't think that there is an available option out there that fits that role. Like, Braden Schneider might've been, but it seems like they've made him unobtainable. People are trading for JBD like he's the answer, and he isn't IMO.

You know what would work for me though? Getting Severson for the next 5 years, and at some point in the next 5 years acquire/draft one that can play with Hughes after Severson. I don't see why it has to be done by one single guy, especially when that guy seems impossible to get. Get Severson for 5 years, then get/develop a different one for 5 years after that while Severson drops to RH2.

If you're looking for a 22 year old RHD who can be a top pair guy, no one is trading them. So you look in house, and there's no one there either. Unless you make some concessions, the Canucks are going to end up with Schenn as his partner until we waste the teams' prime years.
