Tkachuk Trade and Extension

Created by: Chedderbob313
Team: 2022-23 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 20, 2022
Published: Jul. 20, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
TRADE only applicable with an Extension otherwise the Devils walk.

Having Severson, Graves, Tatar and Haula coming off the books this upcoming offseason, that opens up approximately $14 Million of cap space to resign current players and potentially more if the salary cap rises significantly more than the $82.5 M it's currently at.

Tkachuk's extension at $11.75M per puts him ahead of Auston Matthews (pricy) but locks him up until his age 30 season, the entirety of his prime and doesn't affect (at 6 years) the Hughes contract (Hughes not Hischier could potentially be worth more than $11.75M per)

With Holtz, Hughes (Luke) and Nemec coming up as well, this 6–8-year era of Devils hockey could be outstanding with the acquisition and extension of Matthew Tkachuk.

bratt is good. replace the rest with like 2 or 3 pieces of higher value (like mercer+1st or something). quality>quantity. and being drafted in the 1st doesn't mean much when it was a massive reach that doesn't look better in hindsight

Trying without Mercer or Holtz going back to CGY.

Would Consider Foote and/or Zetterlund as forward prospect replacements but believe they will both make the opening night roster, albeit waiver exempt.

yeah but it's not gonna work without mercer or holtz though. the other pieces just aren't valuable enough. to get an elite talent you have to give up some quality
