Maybe on a shorter term, could still make 10.5 work

I think the 1st line stays intact just due to the chemistry. Tkatchuk gives the 2nd line some jam

The second line has no chemistry since Nylander is gone. You do risk Bunting being useless on line 2 but this is why the Leafs shouldn't trade for Tkachuk unless they could keep Nylander but they can't.

I am thinking if you serious about Tkachuk your trading someone off your 1st line and not Bunting and if that was the case its just more sense to sign him for 9.5M X 8

Matthews or Marner are better than Tkachuk, and he's not under contract. if he was const controlled at 7 or 8/yr for 3-5 more years, id trade Marner for him, but thats it

I totally get it, i am sure the Flame would allow the leafs or any team to negotiate a contract before the trade.

He3's still not worth Matthews. Maybe Marner, but CGY would have to give up something else

I agree, I merely said if you were seriously thinking about requiring Tkachuk from Calgary that's what you would have to be willing to do. Obviously your not, So the Nylander with Sandin and Liljegren and picks would have to go, the young D is promising but replaceable the leafs are at the gate now.

I think you're under appreciating how little leverage Calgary has in this. If he wants out, and isnt willing to sign long term, they're screwed

One way to get leverage is a bidding war for RFA rights. Not saying that's their path but still an option. No one except the media is saying that he doesn't want term with Calgary and its always such a surprise when they are completely wrong Haha

If they can get both guys locked up, I think it worked out quite well for them, and I don't think my proposal was far off. Contract was pretty close too
