Calgary would probably be looking to rebuild so I don't think Flames do this

Tkachuk would fit Minny’s system nice. But Kaprisov can pretty much single-handedly win games. Tkachuk does not. As impact as he is.

The question was would you prefer 7-8 years of Tkachuk at 9.25 or 4 years of Kaprizov at 9M.

Personally im keeping Tkachuk

One of the reasons I ask is because of how much Guerin loves certainty.

Kaprizov is way more valuable #1, #2 Tkachuk without his ham and swiss wont be as effective. #3 Neither team would consider this deal. Anymore brain busters ?

That is just not true. While Gaudreau is the more dynamic player this is like saying Rantanen, Marner, or Point can't win a game.
Tkachuk ranked 7th league wide in WAR, 3rd in ixG/60, and 21st in CF/60.

He may not have the speed but like Marchand he 100% has the ability to take over a game

Funny you posted this, was actually thinking about this exact swap last night. You bring up an interesting point about certainty, Russo has mentioned Billy like certainty multiple times. Example A is the Parise/Suter buyouts. We could have just kept them on the roster and hoped they didn't retire so we weren't screwed with cap recapture, but Billy took the certain route and bought them out. He has also signed a few players to very long-term deals (Ek, Brodin, and Spurgeon). Also the Hartman and Middleton conrtacts had a bit more term than you'd typically see.

Still not sure what to think. It's probably fair.

I’m taking the better player. Kaprizov all day. Tkachuk’s production is going to drop a bit away from Gaudreau.

Sorry man. I have to disagree. Unfortunately this is not an objective stat or determined through analytics. It’s a quality watching feature only. It’s not a fluke end to end play. It’s simply watching and seeing a regular capability to dominate in control, speed, and skill.
MacKinnon, McDavid, Crosby are examples. Prime Malkin. Prime Kane. Kopitar. Karlsson.
Kaprisov has that ability and it is crazy to watch.
Players like Marner and Rantanen are incredible to watch. But that final element is missing. I know I’ll take flack for this but I’ve only seen Matthews do that element a couple times.

It's fair, but I wouldn't do it. KK hits his next contract right after the cap penalty ends. So, if we need to increase him to 15M/yr at that point we could. Cost certainty doesn't matter if you have the cap space to afford players.
