Description
First of all, I think CGY will prefer a trade partner from east (historically team trade their big star to opposite conference. Some east teams will offer much more than STL). This tkachuk to STL. Feel to me like Gaudreau to NJ or PHI. If he really wants STL he can sign one year deal and sign as free agent next summer.
And CGY NEED trade him until arbitration hearings date announcement. After that they will lose upper hand in trade talks.

First of all, Tkachuk can almost pick where he wants to go unless some team will offer a scandalous haul without an extension locked in. Perhaps more importantly, Calgary has already lost a ton of hand in the matter. They're not far from scrambling damage control mode.

If Tkachuk can pick, then I cannot see a reason to trade for him Kyrou (or neigbours and bolduc).

I'd imagine any trade without Kyrou would have to include at least one of Neighbours or Bolduc.

I get the sentiment, but you are not getting him next year as a UFA. His big deal is coming this year to the team that trades for him. No team (Blues included) are going to trade without at least the assurance Matthew wants to be here in the long haul. You either trade for him now, or watch him play somewhere else for the next 8 years

I get it, Jordan Kyrou is a player that is rarely seen in STL. The reason I am good with it is you still have to sign him next year and you just don't even have the money to have Tkachuk, Thomas, and Kyrou. So if I am going all in on money for either Tkachuk or Kyrou (as in you can only pay one) give me Tkachuk every single time. So if that is the case, why not use him as a major trade piece, maybe you are able to keep a neighbours and bolduc, so you are set up to hopefully keep the window open for a cup longer than we would think as we stand today

Most of the big cap hits on the roster have trade protection, so I understand the point about 'you can only pay one', but just for kicks, would you rather have Tkachuk + ROR or Tkachuk + Kyrou? (Or ROR + Kyrou + all the assets it would take for Tkachuk?)

I think centers are more valuable than wingers. I also love that Matthew can play all 3 (5v5, PP, PK) where Kyrou is 2 (5v5 and PP). Now, you could convince me that a top 6 of 19-18-25 and 20-10-89 is better than 19-18-89 and 20-90-10. I guess it depends on how you view Schenn moving forward. Do you think he can eat the minutes ROR does, or is he more of a winger for the back end of his deal. The answer to that question is really what you have to answer not really Kyrou vs ROR

How I would Rank them:
Tkachuk/ROR
Tkachuk/Kurou
Kyrou/ROR plus assets

I think I'd rank it the same but it's a tough call. Definitely agree with the need for minute-eating centers over scoring wingers. It would be pretty risky to go with Thomas and Schenn down the middle because neither are going to shut anything down. ROR age worries me a little though. If he loses another step from his already-slow feet, he could crater pretty badly while Kyrou still has plenty of prime years left. I wish we had an ROR replacement in the pipeline.
