Calgary and Suter say no. They’d want Stankoven for taking Benn’s contract. And after that, they aren’t trading a 100 point winger for a first round pick

This was the rough draft I thought of while driving to the values are probably off but I just wanted to get the base out there. If Suter says no back out of getting Tanev and move those assets for Tkachuk. Also thinking that they can swap Mav or Johnston in CGY values the other higher, moving the 2nd to the first, and or throwing in Grushnikov.

Ultimately I don’t think Benn will cost that much to scrap as imo he has to go for this trade to work regardless and if CGY is rebuilding the cap doesn’t matter and they get a serviceable leader who can force the kids to earn a top 6 role and reserve cap space for when Bedard’s ELC expires. Calgary doesn’t have much leverage and Dallas can offer the best pool of prospects for Tkachuk so I don’t think they will kill the deal over Benn’s contract.

I wouldn’t want to move more than one of Wyatt, Stank, or Bourque for this deal. Moving Benn and acquiring Tkachuk would require two of those. Or you’re looking at not drafting in the first round for three years as Benn likely costs two first round picks to move and Tkachuk costs a top prospect and a first
