They might make playoffs, but no further.

5 of the 6 are forwards

I'd be ecstatic if someone took Price's entire contract and gave us assets in return lol

The plan would be to replenish the non-core forwards with ~£1m UFAs / entry level prospects as they near expiry and then as the cap increases year-on-year to funnel that money into the D as time goes on.

Could ice the first ever 6x$10m+ shift in NHL history (if two of the forwards can cover on D) haha

Six 10m forwards or bust, goalies can't play every game anyways and Price could be done.

I will say it's horrible long term but if Price is healthy they definitely make it out of the first round

It's quite plausible too once the cap goes up, just need to trick young players with promise to sign cheap deals for medium to long term, particularly on the back end and goaltending. As long as they can keep 2/4 of the big four (Tavares probably gets under 10m next contract regardless), they can then go splash in free agency 2 to 4 times to complete the count perhaps and perhaps one of the prospects develop into a 10m guy in 3 years.

Would be interesting to see if Pastrnak ends up testing the market.

Agreed. Dare I say it might even be an improvement on the current roster and a cap crisis worth taking hypothetically.

Yeah agreed. Tavares would be the one to redistribute or redeploy towards a 10m D when the time came.

and yeah Pastrnak is interesting, his next contract should be around the 10m mark you'd think, although presuming Tkachuk gets 10+ then he might come in about 9.

He doesn't have that yet. He will if he becomes Vegas' next GM.

McCrimmon likes giving players away for free.

Pastrnak is easily going to make more money than Tkachuk if he wants you. Number 5 in goals in past 5 years cumulative vs number 8 in points last year. When you think of Pasta, think of bread and the breadman. Pastrnak can make Panarin money easily if he wanted.

Would be interesting to see him as the Leafs' GM, I wonder how the anti-Dubas portion of the fanbase would like him. He'll probably get rid of Nylander and not resign Tavares (unless he's taking a massive paycut) and then start chasing all the top free agents every year. However if they don't win, I don't think he would last more than two years.

McCrimmon only has a job because he's the owner's puppet. "I want Jack! Give me Jack!" We can't afford him. "No no I want Jack right now!"
