As far as stars go, definitely Mack and Drais are way ahead of him. I think when his contract was signed it was bad, and now with the growth he’s had this year it’s probably close to fair. It has the potential to be a top contract in the future, because I do think Hughes has a ton of potential, but I also feel like it could be one of those meh whatever contracts that’s fine only because it’s a star player.

those are good contracts but almost no term left on them. i think the hughes contract well be as good or even better for new jersey as the mack contract was for colorado.

They account for roughly the same percentage of the salary cap if I’m not mistaken, wasn’t it like 68-70m back in 2016?
Having Hughes at 8m for those years when the cap starts jumping by 2m+ for each season will be huge down the line.

That’s me lol, apparently, Dubois, Laine and Bjorkstrand news wasn’t enough, I think my head exploded when I saw that trade

I know Huberdeau’s a UFA this upcoming year but like why? You’ve just traded a good complimentary 1st pair D a 1st and Cole Schwindt to get someone with more term as a 1st line winger

^my thoughts on the trade

I'm doing God's work by renaming the thread as those amharic curses down in Calgary just pulled off some D20 necromancy.

Waking up to that was a joy lol.

See you have to respect Brad Treliving.

HE IS DOING ALL THAT HE CAN TO FIELD A CUP WINNER. The blame on what’s happened in Calgary should stay away from his name. I mean not only did he make good out of a terrible situation; if he gets Huberdeau to resign he’s got a dynamite return. I mean you swap superstars and you get a top 4D, oh and a pick that could be interesting in 2025 or 2026.

I mean yeah Hubby could walk but how can you not be over the moon as a flames fan - you still got a shot at the cup.

Oh and if they don’t want to resign (flip them at TDL FOR A HAUL)

Is it Calgary that signed the contract? Or it's a mistake by CapFriendly?

It's 8 years so Calgary signed him before they traded him

Florida could've still signed him to 8 years. They would've owned his RFA rights.

Edit: Actually I might be wrong there. I seem to recall reading something a while ago that might apply here.

they can't you have to be on said teams roster at the deadline or some time around then to be eligible for an 8 year contract.

I love how we went from:

Gaudreau leaves fLames
Tkachuk wants to follow suit
Calgary’s world is ending
Can we get Bratt or Kyrou maybe?
“vALuE MiGHt Be LoWER tHeN we tHiNK” rumblings
Calgary as a city is a wailing
Hart candidate, top 4 D, prospect, pick

Yeah, I edited my comment because I remembered reading something about that.

Now I'm a bit confused though. There was a whole saga about the Leafs potentially trading Hyman to the Oiler's so they could offer him an 8 year deal at a lower cap hit. So was that all for naught, or did this rule come into effect after that?

oilers wanted leafs to sign the 8 year contract in a sign and trade but they never were able to agree on the compensation for the leafs. hyman ended up signing for 7 years directly with the oilers instead.

Idk, but for some reason there is almost 0 doubt to me Hughes will be a top 10 center for a Long time

Oh, I see. It was always talked about as trading Hyman's rights to the Oiler's, iirc.

Kind of a dumb rule, eh?

Oh I see, so the Habs wouldn't be able to get Dubois on a 8-year deal until January 1st
