Yeah I do think that the two best defensive defensemen in the league can play good defense if they’re both healthy. Against anybody. They certainly won’t let Draisaitl score 3 points per game. Which is really all we needed. If Markstrom has even an average series rather than his worst week of the entire season then we’ll be fine. Especially if we add another forward or two, which we probably will.

Fwiw Calgary had enough cap space to keep both Gaudreau and Tkachuk as well, but that's always not enough you know.

They will definitely have enough to keep both Huberdeau and Weegar around but if they're adamant in testing the free agency they can't do sh*t about it. But it's still very early days.

@oilersguy is hell bent on raining on Flames fans parade right now but technically he still has a point

Edmonton will have a buyout window due to arbitration, has a Tyson Barrie problem, and Florida needs another RHD.

Not sure how Edmonton elects to backfill their RHD post-deal but to the tune of whatever quality prospects the Cats have left, the math checks out.

Simply because Calgary acquired Huberdeau & Weegar in arguably the biggest trade of the last 10 years and somehow it's turning into "you saw what Evander Kane did with Drai & McDavid the last postseason?"

I'd argue FLA needs a LHD more at this point. Ekblad, Montour and Gudas are all RHDs.

They should’ve tried to use his name value to ship him out at the deadline rather than Smilanic or whatever. Bennett with Denisenko and Hornqvist is not a recipe for success imo but at least that line will be big and physical.


That’s what I’m saying, he can drive play at both ends of the ice and he’s an above average finisher at 5v5. That’s what you want from a middle 6 W. I guess time will tell with Denisenko.

Bennett is a luxury on the 3rd line , he’s proven he can provide a lot of value even without Huberdeau. I don’t think the 3 RW will be hornqvist but he’s still a good player. It’s not like he’s close to replacement level so I don’t see why him and Bennett wouldn’t work

well thats just not true and I have only been trash talking the flames recently because I have found all the news about them really funny, And I work 50 hours a week in the summer so I don't have the time to endlessly discuss every bit of hockey news even though I would like to so and when I do have time I pretty much just scroll through these forums, watch the hockey guy and keep up to date with Oilers news

I don't think they have anyone left to spend on him, even though it's a great target.

Horny, Samoskevich, Denisenko, 2026 1st...that's the best they could do without losing any big impact NHL guys.
