This thread is for all discussion related to the Entry Draft. Selections are to be made in the Official Selection Thread for each set of rounds.
If you have any questions or simply wish to discuss the Draft as it is taking place, do so in this thread.

SIGNING YOUR DRAFTED PLAYERS

To make it easy to view and track your newly drafted players, we will use the following system:

1. When you have drafted a player, you will use the "Create Player" option on your GM Team.
a) Enter the player's first name
b) Enter (D) and the player's last name. This will result in the player appears as "(D) Lastname, Firstname. (D = Drafted)
c) Enter the player's salary as follows:

1st Round: $925k
2nd Round: $875k
3rd Round: $825k
4th Round: $775k
5th Round $750k
6th Round $725k
7th Round $700k

This gives them a temporary value and also identifies which round the player was drafted in.

2. Once the player is added to the Capfriendly database, you will be able to replace the created player with the actual player, without the (D) tag, and with the actual contract value for players who have signed their ELC's.

ENTRY DRAFT RULES AND PROCEDURES

Start Date: Friday, May 26th at 9:00am EST
Schedule: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VASKmFtGKo5QS5-dcsr3UmKz1ext1TtBeQcSr1_6ghA/edit?usp=sharing
Prospect Rankings/Selection Tracker: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yo8xQyv9ueo-D1BRo2y3J0t2hwKU5UqKaSlw2HNT7i0/edit?usp=sharing
FIRST ROUND pick selection thread: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/64172
------------------------

ROUND 1 - Begins Friday, May 26th at 9:00am EST

1. GM's will have a window of 2.5 hours at a scheduled time to make their selection.
The first pick of each day is allowed to make their selection any time after the last pick of the previous day, until the end of their scheduled window in the morning.
(The 1st, 6th, 11th, 16th, 20th, 24th, and 28th picks would have an "overnight" window. The 6th pick can make their selection Friday night after the 5th pick has been made, for example.)

2. You must make your selection BEFORE the end of your allotted time. DO NOT wait until the last minute.
If a pick is not used prior to the end of the scheduled time, the BOG will automatically select the next highest ranked prospect on behalf of that GM.
Once a selection has been posted, either by you or by the BOG on your behalf, it is PERMANENT. There will be NO CHANGES permitted. No exceptions.
(If you attempt to make your selection 5 minutes before the end of your scheduled time, and/or you lose your internet connection temporarily, too bad. We simply can't delay the entire schedule if something happens, even if it is out of your control. You will still get the next highest ranked player, but it may not be the specific player you wanted.)

3. Wait until the selection for the person before you has been posted. The BOG will make every effort to process the selection at the end of the appointed time, but we may not be right on time for every single window, and we have to process the Selection Tracker/Trades/Verify Picks, etc. If you make your pick before the previous one is processed you may end up with an automatic selection if you pick the same player as the person before you.

ROUND 2 and 3 - Begin Friday, June 2nd at 9:00am EST
GM's will have a window of 1.5 hours at a scheduled time to make their selection. Otherwise, the same rules apply as in round 1.

ROUND4 - Begins Friday, June 9th at 9:00 am EST
GM's will have a window of 1 hour at a scheduled time to make their selection. Otherwise, the same rules apply as in rounds 1-3.

ROUNDS 5-7 - Begin Sunday, June 11th at 1pm EST
GM's will have a window of 30 minutes at a scheduled time to make their selection. Otherwise, the same rules apply as in rounds 1-4.

------------------------

Draft Preparation

1. Prior to the start of the draft, we will be collecting the picks that each team possesses and adding that information to the Selection Tracker. It will be the responsibility of each GM to review and make sure all of their picks are displayed correctly. We will need you to inform us of any errors and keep us advised of any trades involving picks after the Tracker is updated.
NOTE: Until the playoffs are over, the last 4 positions in each round may be out of order. They will be corrected to reflect the real life results of the playoffs as they are known. If you own picks in these positions, be sure to check again after the playoffs have concluded to make sure everything is still in order.

2. The BOG will be accepting "Preference Lists" for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounds only. These will be used in lieu of the Prospect Rankings and allow you to select a player other than the next highest ranked player, should you miss your scheduled window. You will be able to submit your own top 31 list for the first round, as well as your position preferences for the 2nd and 3rd round. We will only use your top 31 list for Round 1. For Rounds 2 and 3, we will auto-draft by your positional preference whenever possible.
There will be a thread posted to submit these lists prior to the beginning of the draft. Be sure to follow the format for submissions, as any misinterpretation of what you provide will be your responsibility.
There will be no Preference Lists for Rounds 4-7. It will be up to you to make your selection and if you do not, the next best player available will be selected.

3. It is recommended that you keep track of your own schedule for the selections you own and wish to make. Not knowing or getting your scheduled time wrong will not be an exception either. Keep in mind that, as a last resort, you can also make transactions to acquire or trade away picks that you simply can not make your scheduled time for. You may trade up or down in order to get a better scheduled time.

4. If you have an Assistant GM, you will be able to give them the authority to make the selection. They will not have that authority by default. This consent will be part of the "Preference List" when you submit it. As long as they have consent, it will be treated as if you made the selection yourself. You will not be able to show up after they have posted your pick and attempt to change it. Make sure they have all of the information they need before you give them permission to select.

------------------------

Draft Procedure

1. The BOG will post a thread for picks to be made in each round. Only selections are to be posted.
There will be a separate thread for discussion during the draft. Any questions or concerns can be addressed there.
Picks will be made according to a specific format in the thread provided. If you post incorrectly and it results in an error, your pick may be rejected so BE CAREFUL WHEN POSTING YOUR SELECTION.
The specific format will be provided in the first post of the thread for drafting your players. Do not just copy the person before you, in case they did something wrong. We want to keep this clean and organized, since we are on a schedule and won't be able to make changes to the schedule to accommodate GM's that do not post correctly. If you need assistance, ask in the discussion thread BEFORE posting your selection.

2. Once your selection has been posted, your "turn" is over, even if your time to select is not. You may not change your selection once it has been made. If you attempt to do so, your pick may be rejected and moved to the end of the round.

3. Trades during the draft will be allowed, but be mindful of the schedule and don't wait until the last minute to make a trade. Be aware that if you are acquiring a pick, that the same schedule applies to your selection as the previous owner. You will not be given extra time to use your newly acquired pick.

Read all of these rules carefully and be sure you understand. You will be responsible for any errors. Follow the rules carefully. Ask for help when you are uncertain. Pay attention to the rules in the draft threads as well. Follow instructions. Let's make this smooth and simple. smile

HOW DRAFT PICKS AND PREFERENCE LISTS WILL WORK

Post your current 2017 draft picks in the "Draft Pick List and Preference List Thread" (to be posted in a few days, do not post here please).

DO NOT EDIT YOUR POST IF YOUR PICKS CHANGE!

This is to set up the original picks/ownership/order. The BOG will edit the selection tracker for trades occurring after you have posted your lists.

Post your selection preferences for rounds 1, 2, and 3, in the same post.

For Round 1: You may submit up to 31 player names. If you are unable to make your selection within your scheduled time limit, the BOG will give you the top-listed, next available player from your preference list. The same list will apply to all of your 1st round picks if you have multiples, so we suggest you create your own 1st round rankings, rather than just submitting a handful of names. If you only post a handful of names, and they are all gone by the time your next pick takes place, you will be given the best player available from the Prospect Rankings list instead.

For Rounds 2 and 3: You may submit your preference by position only. If you are unable to make your selection within your scheduled time limit, the BOG will give you the next best player available at the specified position.

For Rounds 4-7: No preference lists will be used. If you are unable to make your selection within your scheduled time limit, the BOG will give you the next best player available, regardless of position.

If you have specific needs or want a specific player with any given pick, the only way to ensure that selection, is to be present and make the selection yourself.

PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE FORMAT FOR YOUR POST. IF ANYTHING IS INCORRECT OR AMBIGUOUS, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.

Use your own team thread to practice and/or make sure your post is correct before submitting it here.
Follow the template, and ask someone to check your practice post before submitting if you are uncertain.

HOW EACH ROUND'S THREAD WILL WORK

*This is just the procedure of how it will work, again do not post your selections for any round of the draft here

Submit your selections, and only your selections, in the "2017 GM Game Draft - Round (insert number here)" thread.
All discussion or questions should be posted in the OFFICIAL ENTRY DRAFT DISCUSSION THREAD, located here: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/62173
It is your responsibility to follow all of the rules and procedures for the draft. If you are unsure, ASK!

Here is where your pick selection for the FIRST ROUND will be made: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/64172

Start Date: Friday, May 26th at 9:00am EST
Schedule: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VASKmFtGKo5QS5-dcsr3UmKz1ext1TtBeQcSr1_6ghA/edit?usp=sharing
Prospect Rankings/Selection Tracker: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yo8xQyv9ueo-D1BRo2y3J0t2hwKU5UqKaSlw2HNT7i0/edit?usp=sharing

1. The scheduled GM will post their selection in this thread according to the provided format.
2. The BOG will verify and add that selection to the Selection Tracker. We may not be right on time for every window, so it will be your responsibility to review the previous selections and ensure you do not pick a player that has already been chosen.
3. The BOG will post in between picks when the Selection Tracker has been updated to reflect the latest selection(s).

HOW TO MAKE YOUR SELECTION:

1. You may make your selection any time before the end of your schedule time, provided that the person ahead of you has made their selection and the BOG has updated the Selection Tracker.
If the GM before you has not made their selection, wait for the BOG to select for them. This may take several minutes, since we are using preference lists for the 1st round. This may be an inconvenience, but you are being forewarned. It is an unavoidable part of the process if we wish to be fair and accommodate everybody.

2. Once the GM or BOG have posted the previous pick, you will copy/paste the previous selections, and then add your own. This way the players who have already been chosen, will always be in the most recent post and available for the next GM in line, making it easy to avoid selecting the same player twice.

3. Your selection will be formatted as follows:

Pick Number - Team Name (original owner of pick) - Selects: Player Name
Ignore the original owner of pick part if the pick originally belongs to your team.

example:
#1 - Colorado (from Buffalo) - Selects: Nathan Picket

The next GM will copy, and then add to that selection. Do not quote, as we will end up with a difficult to read chain of quotes.
Simply copy and paste the entire list and then add your selection to the end ...

#1 - Colorado (from Buffalo) - Selects: Nathan Picket
#2 - Dallas - Selects: Starsky Hutchins

And so on ...

#1 - Colorado (from Buffalo) - Selects: Nathan Picket
#2 - Dallas - Selects: Starsky Hutchins
#3 - Philadelphia (from Colorado) - Selects: Ima Chuzyu

The BOG will also copy and pass on the selection list then they update the tracker. These will be the only quoted posts in the thread, so they will be noticeable.

Quote:

Selection tracker has been updated.

#1 - Colorado (from Buffalo) - Selects: Nathan Picket
#2 - Dallas - Selects: Starsky Hutchins
#3 - Philadelphia (from Colorado) - Selects: Ima Chuzyu

4. If you happen to have consecutive picks, make them in separate posts.

5. If for some reason the BOG is unavailable for an extended period of time: We will do our best to be here when required, but sometimes things happen. As a failsafe, if you absolutely MUST make your pick before the BOG is able to select on behalf of the person ahead of you (if the previous GM doesn't select on time), you may not take the next best player available, as that player is reserved for the previous GM unless the BOG makes a different selection.

For example:
The GM drafting at #34 hasn't made their selection yet. You are drafting at #35 and it is your scheduled window.
It has been 30 minutes and the BOG still hasn't selected for that GM. You don't have time to wait any longer.
You may select any player except for the highest ranked, un-selected player according to the Selection Tracker.

Players ranked #1-32 have already been selected.
#33 - Frenchie Frys - D (has not been selected)
#34 - Potato McSkins - C (selected by Colorado)
#35 - Mashly Tuber - C (has not been selected)

In this situation, you cannot select #33 Frenchie Frys, as that player is reserved for the GM before you.
You may select any un-selected player after that point. Mashly Tuber in this case is the highest ranked player available to you.

This should not happen and we will do our best to avoid this situation, but we want to be sure to cover this possible scenario, just in case.

Just a question: What do you mean by 'post incorrectly'. Like, if there's a typo or something?

If any GM is unable to make it to either draft selection, for example, their 4th round pick, can a GM submit a last minute selection sheet to this thread so that the BOG may select the player(s) of his or her desire?

We discussed it and it's too much effort for the BOG as the time between selections gets shorter. We'd have to be online constantly monitoring to make sure GM's got the pick they preferred. Onus is completely on the GM's past the 3rd round to select their own players, and we won't be doing specific player names past the 1st round. If people want certain players, it will be up to them to make sure they get those players.

Hey Rico, I think Columbus and Montreal have finally sorted out that 6th round pick from the Calvert deal. So even though I put the Florida 6th as the pick I received, MTL never had that pick to begin with. However, I did not trade that pick that I acquired from MTL. Florida later traded me the 6th when I traded down my CBJ 1st this year. So I believe I should have two sixths. The Anaheim one I was supposed to get from MTL and the Florida one I got from Florida.

I thought those were 2018 picks involved? If they are 2017's let me know if they are correct on the Tracker and if not, which picks and who it currently shows as the owner?

They are 2017s. Columbus should own the 2017 FLA 6th and the 2017 ANA 6th.

Yup I don't know where the missing 2018 pick idea comes from but Florida never got the 2018 ANA pick. They got the 2017 pick from the Blacker deal. Maybe we got confused with years here.

Florida shows no record of trading that pick, and Columbus shows no record of receiving that pick.

Yes Florida traded it to MTL in the Petrovic deal. My mistake on my trade listing shows it being a ARIZONA 6th but in fact its ANAHEIM's. That pick was later on traded to Columbus in the Calvert trade.

You could twitter dm me your list or something if you want to do that. I also have a faux Gmail we could use if desired since personal emails are not allowed to be used here.

Carolina is up whenever you're ready.

Make sure to copy/paste previous selections and add your own guys, so the next GM can see everyone that was selected in case the Tracker hasn't been updated when they go to make their pick.
Sticking to formatting might not seem like a big deal, but it matters when you are going cross-eyed looking at spreadsheets constantly, so try to follow exactly.

Minimum. Once the first 5 are done, the 6th is free to select, then the 7th, and so on.
It doesn't change the schedule for the remaining picks, so nobody's deadline changes, you just may or may not be able to select earlier if everyone ahead of you is early as well.
